I went for a run for the first time since August yesterday. It definitely felt good to get some outdoor exercise! I’m not breaking any records with running right now for a few reasons:
1) I have Max in the Chariot. I found it really different to not have the use of my arms when running. The Chariot works well though and I didn’t feel like I was really “pushing” anything. I also do not run over curbs as Max would get too jostled about.
2) There were big puddles everywhere thanks to the snow banks melting. Had to go off the sidewalk several times.
3) My cardio is shot.
I did a 3K run in 25 minutes…My fastest 5K is 27 minutes. I will get there though. My first run of the seasons is painfully slow. I’m averaging about 8 min per KM.
I am starting to attempt to get my body back in shape. I am only about 5 lbs away from my pre-pregnancy weight, and 10 lbs away from my ideal weight. The weight doesn’t bother me one bit. My student/athletes told me to stop whining about it last year as I weight about the same as them. My issue is with the spare tire action going around my middles/lack of a core. I look huge in the middles/about 4-5 months pregnant still. I really just want to tone up and get healthy.
The problem is that it is hard to work out with an infant. Running works because I have a running stroller. There are some exercises I can do at home with Max and those baby and me classes. But sometimes I would like to work out hard, which I can’t do with Max. I didn’t renew my gym membership as there is no point. I don’t really have the luxury of being able to go out after dinner to hit up the gym and Max is too young for the gym child care. By the time I make dinner, clean up, P gets home and Max has his dinner meal….it is almost time for bedtime for Max. There just isn’t enough time in the evening! It will get easier though, especially when Max is old enough to walk/run.
