I am not a fan of just sitting around watching some random program on the cable TV. I pretty much watch my network shows, some Discovery/Food/Slice network programs and that is it. If nothing is on, I don’t just click on some channel and watch ‘Hillbilly Hand-fishing’ because I want to watch some screen. If nothing is on, I usually throw on a DVD. I have a fairly decent size DVD collection of my favorite films. Back in the day when I lived on my own and didn’t have cable tv, I would go to Blockbuster (say what?) and Rogers (huh?) and browse the ‘Already viewed’ section for cheap DVD’s. HMV also has a fairly decent collection of reasonably priced DVD’s. But, the video rental stores (what the hell are those?), would have great deals, including my favorite: Buy 1 get 2 free. Most of my DVD’s came from those sales and I’ve never had a problem with the quality.
So, with buying those movies, I would simply watch DVD’s when I wanted to watch TV. Now that I have cable, if nothing I like is on, but I still require some TV time, I have a couple of go-to movies that I could watch anytime, anywhere.
Some of my go-to movies include:
The Devil Wears Prada
I love this movie. Something about Meryl Streep playing a big mean boss-lady just makes this film amusing. I also like the fashion and Emily Blunt. I’ve shown this film in my Careers class a couple of times. The funny thing is, the last time I showed the movie, the guys of the class were in to it the most….
Although Cameron Diaz films can be hit and miss, I love Kate Winslet. This is one of those movies that strikes a cord when you are having a not so good day. Plus, how many of you do what Cameron did in the early part of the movie: drink wine, eat food and then have a dance party?
The recent Batman Trilogy
So right now I only have the first two movies (Batman Begins and The Dark Knight), but I am very much looking forward to the third installment coming out on DVD next month. As you have all probably realized, I am a big fan of ‘the batman’, and can watch (and have watched) the movies several times.
Another set of movies that I have watched too many times, but still watch them. Usually we will pick up one movie and then decide to watch them all over a course of several weeks. They are still enjoyable. No matter how many times I have seen the scene: when Fudge says “He’s Back!!!” at the end of ‘Order of the Phoenix’ I still crack up laughing.
Finding Nemo/Wall-E/Monsters Inc/Toy story….ok ok, all the Pixar Movies
Yeah, seriously. I love pretty much all the Pixar movies and own a large portion of them. I also probably know all the lines in Finding Nemo. Every time I eat fish for dinner I may yell in an Aussie accent “I’M EATING FISH TONIGHT!”.
