It is COLD in Ottawa today. We had to cancel our movie trip today as we were to walk to the movies and our Principal agreed that we should probably not have the kids walk over a KM in the cold. The kiddies are disappointed, but I offered to buy them pizza in exchange for turning their frowns upside down.
I posted last week about my 2014 Running plans. Some of you are also making plans for your race seasons as well. Two events have been brought to my attention, so I would like to share with you: The Manotick Miler and MEC Road Race #1
On April 27th, 2014: The Manotick Road Race will be turned into a Manotick Miler with 10, 5, 3 and 1 mile races through the beautiful Manotick Countryside (just outside Ottawa). Last year over 1500 runners joined in the festivities. The Race kit will include a t-shirt, bib and other goodies. The race is chip timed via SportsStat and there is plenty of parking for bikes and cars! If you register before Dec. 31st and use the code MILERSAVE50 you will receive a 50% discount on the race – which makes this race VERY affordable.

MEC Road Race #1
I did mention the MEC road races in my post and to my surprise the fine folks at MEC Ottawa announced their first road race for 2014. The first MEC road race will be on January 26th, 2014 and is being called “the cold one”. The race is at the Rideau Carleton Raceway (South Ottawa) and is only $15. The races offered this time are the 5K and the 10K. The race will start under the grandstand seating, go through a closed to traffic path and then finish with a lap of the track – cool beans! This year MEC is offering chip timing too! MEC Ottawa has done a great job so far with their race series – so I’m sure this season will be just as good!

For those who are interested – here are the dates for the Ottawa MEC Race Series. I will post more details as I get them:
Hope you are staying warm today!
