I posted a couple of weeks ago my race calendar plans for 2014. The events I planned to sign up for have changed a bit – especially with some news from the local race organizers. The biggest disappointment for me is that the ‘Day Before Mother’s Day Race’ has been cancelled. I have run this race every single year since I’ve started running and placed in the top 3 of my category each time (even when I was pushing a chariot). The event organizers (Somersault) have struggled for the past couple of years with the location. First the race was at Place d’Orleans, the local mall, which was great since I live right behind the start line (no joke, it is true!!), then it was moved to the Aviation museum (same route as Emilie’s Run), then last year we literally ran in some random part of the Aviation Parkway. I’m guessing this year’s plans did not go so well. So, that race is out! The great people at MEC Ottawa have announced their races for 2014 as well. The good news is that there is a mix of races, including some trail races! I’ve signed up for the Around the Bay 5K, mostly since I want to cheer on my friends running the 30KM race and visit McMaster!
Updated 2014 Race Calendar
January 26th, 2014 – MEC Road Race #1 – 5K
March 30th – Around the Bay, Hamilton – 5K
May 25th – Ottawa Race Weekend – Half Marathon
June 21st – Emilie’s Run – 5K
September 7th – MEC Road Race # 6 – 10K
September 21st – Army Run – Half Marathon
November 2nd – NYC Marathon – 42.2KM (ahh)
So as you can see – I’m going for all the common races this year – 5K, 10K, Half Marathon and a Marathon. Can I PB in all four races? I think I can!
As you may notice there is a big jump from the June race to the September Race. I am way too busy in the Summer to commit to any races during the summer months. I have camping trips, family reunion events and track meets that keep me incredibly busy during the weekends. I will also be full swing into Marathon training starting July 1st, so really I need to spend my time doing quality long runs which I can do on the path by my house (meaning I do not waste an hour driving to a race and parking). I very rarely run summer races anyways.
What races have you signed up for?
