Easter Weekend + Boston Monday

Happy Boston Marathon Monday!

This year was a bit more fun since I did not have to work today and juggle watching live stream and you know, working…

As like the past two previous years, I was able to watch the Boston Marathon on cable, live. Some people were not that lucky, with some places not televising the race until 5pm or so – what gives with that? I always enjoy tweeting with people and sharing in watching the race from all around the world. Rita Jeptoo won the woman’s race with a spectacular record-breaking finish, but the really exciting race was watching Meb Keflezighi win. He was flying for the whole race, but towards the end it looked like Wilson Chebet might catch him – he didn’t. Meb fist pumped the last 400m of the race and became the first American to win Boston since 1983 (aka the year of my birth). One day I would like to run Boston…maybe?

This weekend we were at my parent’s house because we had to pick up the robot in Barrie. We had to take the very long way to Mississauga to drop off the robot trailer, which meant taking a very turn-heavy highway that I used to get carsick on when I worked at a summer camp in Haliburton. Halfway through the 50 minute drive on this road, Max starts screaming “I’m hot, I’m Hot” – and then it happened – apple juice and Timbit (donuts) vomit. Poor guy has thrown up maybe 4 times in his life (outside baby spit-up) and with a single tear running down his face goes “Mama, I made a mess” with a quivering bottom lip. Poor guy! Because we couldn’t stop where we were, we had to drive a bit farther until we could safely stop. Thank goodness we had extra towels and whatnot in the car. Super gross! He didn’t throw up again and when we stopped at McDonald’s a few hours later, woofed down his lunch – so car sickness it was! Just like his Mama!

We visited Vaughan Mills mall on Saturday to do a little shopping. I ended up with two half-price Lululemon speed shorts, two pairs of jeans (needed as I forgot to pack pants) and $12 sunglasses from Bass Pro Shops. Max like Bass Pro Shops because of the fish and he got to see the Easter Bunny. He now thinks the Easter Bunny lives at Bass Pro Shops….

Although we are off work today – we still came back on Sunday. We took Max to Boston Pizza in the morning as they had some Easter fun for kids including an easter egg hunt, egg decorating and colouring. It was just 3o minutes, but Max had fun. It cost $5, but we were given a gift certificate for a free kids meal (worth $7) so totally worth it.

Since it was super nice out today, I went on a 9K run. It was supposed to be more, but my tummy wasn’t feeling all that hot after 8K, so I called it a day. I did manage to run my 8K in 48:00 which is my pace time for the Manotick Miler, so at least I know I can pace the race comfortably (I wasn’t huffing and puffing like my 5:10 5K pace). I am hoping to maybe get a run in tomorrow if P can pick up Max – but I also have Thursday afternoon and Friday all day. I took an unpaid day Friday because I was supposed to go away – so now I have the day to do whatever I want – what do you think I should do?

Did you watch any of the Boston Marathon today?

Do you do anything special for Easter (if you celebrate it…)

What are your favorite running shorts?

Poor Max! Glad he got over the car sickness quickly.
I didn’t get to watch the marathon, timed my long run of 32k at the same time. It was kind of fun knowing I was out there at the same time as the runners in Boston.
I’ll look for you in Manotick.

He did get over it quickly – but he had a big fever today, so we stayed home. I went out for my run right after the elites finished 🙂

He had a fever today, so we had to stay home. But no other symptoms and was back to normal by 4pm – weird!
