Getting back to the Gym

It has been awhile since I have posted anything about going to the gym – because it has been awhile! I had a gym membership at Goodlife Fitness Gym up until February but because of my part-time status at work, renewing my membership for another year was out of the question. Plus, at the indoor track location we have access to a small gym which suited my needs. But, access to the indoor track is done until October, which means I have have no access to a gym.

Recently, I was approached about writing some blog posts about Goodlife Fitness as a blogger ambassador. I agreed and went to my local Goodlife location to get signed up. I sat at a table with one of the Goodlife employees who ran me through a quick questionnaire (health related questions as well as fitness goals) and a bit of a breakdown about the club. I am already familiar with this location, but the first time I signed up at Goodlife, they also walked me around the facility to show me where everything is located. The location I tend to go to is a bit of a smaller gym, but has everything you need: cardio equipment (rowers, treadmills, ellipticals, stair masters), free weights, seated weights and a circuit set up that you can finish in about 20 minutes. There is also a cycling room (RPM) and a large class area that offers a variety of classes. What I tend to use Goodlife Fitness for main is access to weights, the classes (I love BodyFlow!) and a treadmill if the weather isn’t great. I also like that because I have an all-club pass – I can go to any club I want! Makes it easy to fit in a workout whether I am in Barrhaven, Orleans or Downtown.

Yesterday I spent a bit of time signing up at the gym and then went on to do an arm workout. I did a variety of seated arm exercises to work on my ‘noodle arms’. I also jumped on a stationary bike for 5 minutes at the end. Sometimes I like to warm-up/cool-down with a 5 minute jog on the treadmill but it was a mandatory “no running” day for me.

Over the next month, I will be writing about my experiences with Goodlife Fitness and what they have to offer. I will not be posting any pictures (camera phones/cameras are strictly prohibited in the club) nor will I be giving out any detailed fitness plans – but I hope to describe some of the classes one can take, what I use the gym for, and how to balance working out with a career + child.

    I didn’t have access to a gym last week and I hated it. I love the cardio machines for cross-training and I love having access to weights!!

      Exactly. I use the gym mostly for the bike and weights

    What a neat opportunity!! I miss having a gym membership sometimes. The classes are my favourite! Does Goodlife have child care? There is one 5 min from my house.

      Yes they do! The hours are kind of wonky for working moms – my gym is 9-1 on weekdays with one 9-1 session on Saturday. But some clubs have different hours. I am going to bring Max to the gym next Saturday to try it out!

    I have no time for a gym membership, but I’ve gone to Goodlife in the past and enjoyed it! I’m not a big gym person in general, but it is good for classes and weights and stuff.
