I’m a little tired today because I got home from work/track at 10pm and Max was up several times last night – hello coffee!
Linking up with Amanda at Running with Spoons – Another edition of Thinking Out Loud Thursday
1) Track and more Track
Last night my track club held another summer evening track meet which is the typical place you can find me on a Wednesday night. The last couple of meets, I’ve had Max with me, so I couldn’t stay for very long – but this week P wasn’t busy with robots, so Max stayed at home. I quickly got assigned to long jump pit duty. This weekend is the Canadian Track and Field Championships in Moncton and I will be watching several of the events on the livestream. There are a number of athletes from my track club there – and I will be cheering them on. I also have a Youth track meet on Sunday to help out with. It is supposed to be 30C and sunny, so I will be working on my sock tan lines and probably overheat. It will be fun though!
2 – Smashing Pumpkins
One of the bright sides of commuting is that I have been able to listen to lots of music while driving. I don’ have much on my iPhone due to space issues – but I do have almost every album of Avenged Sevenfold and Smashing Pumpkins. I’ve started to get into the Oceania album by the Smashing Pumpkins – an album I downloaded when it came out but haven’t really listened to yet. I’ve really gotten into the song “The Celestials”. I definitely want to try and learn this song on the guitar this summer.
3 – Chips for dinner
If you follow me on Twitter (@RebeccaRuns) – you may have seen a tweet stating that I had chips for dinner. It wasn’t by choice, but because I had to leave the department party early to go to track. Therefore I had only eaten handfuls of chips/other munchie foods. The person who manages the track club twitter account tweeted “a case of don’t do what I do, right coach?” and a few of my track friends laughed that I only had chips for dinner. At 8pm I was starving. But don’t worry, when I got home I ate a more balanced meal
4 – Packing up
I am packing up my office at work for the 3rd time this year. Luckily I am used to move my school stuff around – so it only took two trips to the car. I have an ‘office in a box’ for my Civics/Careers courses that helps me stay organized during the rush of summer school – but since I’m not teaching in person this year I did not have to re-organize all my files. Another summer job!
5 – Beach weather!
Once thing I really love about summer is that it is beach weather time. Max loves the beach. There are several beaches in the Ottawa area, with Gatineau Park being a very popular place to go (and the water is less gross). Maybe Max will learn to swim this summer? Right now he just dives in
6 – Doctor’s Appointment and New Glasses
My left leg is still acting a bit funny. Although it feels fine right now (not hurting) – it was hurting again earlier this week. It isn’t a stabbing, sharp pain – but more like a dull ache localized in one spot. Since it keeps coming back – it is best to get the leg checked out. I have an appointment with my family doctor on Monday and will hopefully get referred to some sort of sports med specialist. I’m fairly certain that my problem is from my running form, but I’m not an expert. Plus if it is just a case of shin splints – I can hopefully find someone to help me fix that. Shin Splints is definitely better than a stress fracture – but they can lead to a stress fracture. Best figure this out before I start marathon training. Also in terms of medical stuff – I picked out a new pair of frames the other day. I’ve been wearing ‘nerd frames’ for quite some time – but now will have a different style.
7 – It is never too late….
To put Wifi on your Wii – We have had a Wii for a number of years yet never hooked it up to our wifi network. We have had Netflix for a long time as well – and never installed it on the Wii. I finally put Netflix on the Wii so we can use the Wii to browse through Netflix rather than my iPad. P was all “whoa, the Wii can hook up to the wifi?!?!”.
Have a great Thursday!
