Another Thursday, Another Thursday Thinking Out Loud – linking up with Running with Spoons
#1 Banana Phone
It is that time of year again – waiting for the phone to ring to see what my teaching assignment will be for the first semester. I could get a phone call anytime in the next few business days. I’m unsure of my chances this time, so I am just hoping I get something. The way it works is that the HR people put up a list of positions and you apply for what you are willing to accept. They then look at who applied and then go by seniority to see who will be placed in what position. You then get the phone call “here is your assignment – take it or go supply teach” meaning, you have no choice and you have to accept what you get, or you will no longer be considered. I’m also looking at another year of only working part time. I have specifically chosen positions that are in my area and are at schools where they “top up” your schedule with supply work so you can get close to a full-time pay (my last school did not do that).
#2 Apples not good!
As I mentioned yesterday, I went for a 7K run and ate an apple with cookie butter right before running. I have learned that apples are not suitable foods for me to eat before running. Apples have traces of sorbitol in them, and even small amounts of sorbitol = not good for running. Although I can eat an apple with no problem most of the time, running causes my tummy to get all jumbly. I spent most of the day yesterday not feeling too great, all because of a little apple. In case you are wondering what happens when I eat something with sorbitol in it and then go for a run, take a look at my pacing graph from Garmin Connect. You can see my gradually getting faster warm-up (and the stop for the traffic light!) then slightly faster tempo pace, then the dropped parts where I had to walk because my stomach hurt. Super annoying!
#3 Clear the iPhone
I noticed the other day that I wasn’t able to take any more pictures with my iPhone. Despite deleting some older pictures and clearing some other stuff off – I was still only having a limited amount of free space on the phone. So, I spend 30 minutes and cleared my iPhone completely. I plugged in the phone to the computer and erase the phone – choosing not to restore from a back-up, but do a fresh install. I am able to get all the apps back with a click of a button and my pictures were saved on iCloud. Magically, I have just under 3G of space on my phone now. I did this with my iPad a few months ago when it started working really slow and it really helped the iPad’s processing speed after. I only have a 16G phone, and my music takes up 9G of space, so every once and awhile I have to clear some junk!
Some days I just like to be lazy. Like when I watched Hunger Games: Catching Fire and read Canadian Running Magazine all while eating a burrito bowl. I don’t have to be busy every moment of every day right? To be honest – I had just finished cleaning all the floors in the house 🙂
#5 Chocolate Bar Verdict
The combination of dark chocolate and cookie butter is pretty good. Although, I would have liked way more cookie butter filling. Perhaps I can just whip out a spoonful of cookie butter and layer it on next time?
