Hey – it has been awhile, but finally I have a little bit of time to write a Thinking Out Loud Thursday, linking up with Amanda at Running With Spoons
#1 No Starbucks PSL yet
Surprisingly enough, I have yet to drink a Starbuck’s Pumpkin Spice Latte this season. I have had 3 McDonald’s versions of the drink though. It tastes slightly different, but costs less. Plus it is Monopoly time at McDonalds, so clearly my priorities are in order
#2 I should buy a lottery ticket
On twitter, lots of brands/companies do the “RT this and you could win” or the Twitter Party chats that have prizes if you answer questions. I don’t plan my nights to sit and participate in Twitter chats, but some of them are fun, especially #Runchat (which doesn’t always have prizes). I also do not participate anymore in the really big twitter parties that seem to take over my feed (not including RunChat). Mostly the ones I participate in are with brands that I like. Oiselle is currently promoting #marathonmadness week because of all the big marathons coming up, including Chicago and New York. Easy enough to enter – answer the daily question and retweet. Much to my surprise on Monday night, I noticed that my twitter notifications were over 10, which is kind of unusual (I check twitter often). Then I saw the tweet from Oiselle that I won Monday’s prize! Yay! I won a Superfly cap, Go Fast, Take Chances t-shirt and Cable knit arm warmers. I may have screamed and happy danced. The next night, I participated in an MEC (Canadian Outdoors store) chat and once again, I had one a prize. The MEC prize was a set of MEC FairTrade Cotton t-shirts, sweet!
What is next? Finding the Boardwalk game piece at McDonalds?
#3 NYC Marathon Route
I watched a 21 minute video of the NYC Marathon route last night.
There really needs to be no other explanation other than: obsessed.
#4 America vs Canada
Speaking of the marathon – I was looking at the elevation chart and noticing that the hills seemed large. I counted up the elevation gain and then thought “oh no, the hills are twice as big as the Ottawa ones!”. Commence freaking out. I then read this post with some tips from a long-time NYC Marathon runner and realized that the elevation chart is in FEET not metres. Panic over! Although that first bridge is something else!
What am I going to talk about when the marathon is over?
#6 Small Rant
My professional organization is spending who knows how much money on advertising through billboards, radio and now various parenting blogs. All say “blah blah blah, we have great teachers” or in the blog posts, encouraging people to go to the website and then look up the various members. That is great, and I’m all for people finding out more information – but really, could we not have spent this money elsewhere? Or not have raised our fees? If you are thinking that finding out this information means you will know if you have a great teacher or not – sorry, the website isn’t going to tell you that. It will tell you qualifications and nothing else. There are significantly more factors that determines whether someone is “good” (quotation marks on purpose) or not. Also, please, this professional organization does nothing to “set the bar” or anything like that. /end rant
#7 Last Night at the track
Tonight is my last practice at the outdoor track until next Spring! It is looking like it will by a cold night at the track. Starting next week, I go back to the indoor dome, which is only 5 minutes from my house. I no longer have any real reason to leave the east end of Ottawa. YAY!
