Thinking Out Loud Thursday: Ottawa

Yesterday morning, a shooter decided to open fire at the War Memorial in downtown Ottawa, killing Nathan Cirillo, a 24 year old solider from Hamilton, Then, the shooter (well, this is the thought) jumped in a car, then ran up Parliament Hill to then shoot a rifle inside Centre Block – where our House of Commons and Senate is located. A video being played all over the media shows the shooter being shot down by Parliament Security/Police in Hall of Honour. Ottawa was then locked down.

I was no where near downtown yesterday, but I have been downtown several times. I have stood in the Hall of Honour several times with my students. I have run past all those locations in races. Last time I was at Parliament Hill, I was sitting in the grass watching my students play frisbee on the lawn – because that is what we do on nice days.

So – the only thing I am thinking about is Ottawa today

We live and work in the suburbs, so we were not in the area that day. But still, a bit too close to home!

Hey! This is random BUT I think I saw you yesterday at the cross-country meet. I help coach at WHS. Good luck at New York—I just ran STWM on the weekend and I’m ready for some rest. I’ve enjoyed reading your blog for a little while now 🙂

Yes, you did see me! I actually taught there last year for a few weeks – and I know Dave 🙂 – I saw some of my former students at the meet! It was a perfect day for running!

      Well done on STWM!!

Thanks for sharing the photos. It breaks my heart that Ottawa is all over the news and for some, that is going to be their first impression ):
