#1 School Early
Not sure if I have mentioned it before – but I only work part-time. Some days I do work a full time, and some times I only work a part day. That is the nature of my job. Anyways, the period that I am assigned to teach every single day, is in the morning – but my schedule flips every other day. Somedays I have to be in for 8:20, the other days around 9:15. Today was supposed to be a 9:15 day, so at 7:30 I was still in PJ’s. I got a call to come in for 8:20, which meant I had to hurry up. I was able to shower, dress, get things together, drop off Max and make it to school in 45 minutes. Of course, what happens – a mix up in the schedule and I am now sitting in my office on a free period. I should explain that my contract states that I must have a ‘prep period’ – but because my contract is only 33% of a full contract, my ‘prep period’ is less than 30 minutes of a day. The rest of the time is my time and I can be out of the building (which is why I run 90% of my runs during the work day). I now have to teach the last period of the day – which means I am probably going to be in the building all day. YAY! I’m probably going to watch some Netflix during my next free period…..
#2 Dr. Pepper
I rarely drink pop – basically only if I am out for lunch. We don’t really buy pop for the house unless company is over. Usually I drink Coke or Pepsi. But the other day I was at Mucho Burrito and saw that they had Dr. Pepper – so that is what I had. Delicious!
#3 Hair issues….
My hair is longer than it has been in a very long time. I have no idea how to style my hair, but I have been trying. I have tried braiding my hair, putting it up and recently started messing around with curling it as well. The problem – my hair does not hold any style. If I do curl my hair and even add lots of hairspray, it is back to straight hair within about an hour. I laughed when watching the first episode of Grey’s Anatomy yesterday as Meredith’s hair was done exactly how mine is on an almost every day basis – a crappy ponytail-bun thing. Although the one benefit is that my hair does look a lot better if I do spend a few extra minutes “styling it” – maybe that is the trick to nice hair?

Last night, I took Max to Cosmic Adventures, an indoor playground here in Ottawa. It makes for an easy evening to run around and climb when the sunlight disappears as soon as we get home. But, unlike last year where we had to follow Max around everywhere, now he can pretty much run around by himself (all while chasing other kids, trying to make friends). I did go down a slide with him and then all of a sudden he was gone. They do lock the front gates so that kids cannot escape. Soon I heard the “Mommm??” and found him way at the top. You can barely see him, but he is about to follow some boys on the slide.
#5 Helper Monkey
Max is all about helping these days. He vacums up his own mess, helps wash dishes and even does the shopping. Actually, I’m 99% sure that if I just let him loose in the store, he would be able to pick up the staples. In Max’s grocery cart, I bet we would find:
#6 Baking Time
I forgot what the date was yesterday and didn’t realize that I have a Cross Country thing at lunch where I was going to bring a gluten-free/nuts-free dessert. At 8pm at night, with a tired toddler, there was no going to the store to get some necessary gluten-free ingredients. So, I used my friendly neighbourhood Google and made meringues. I hope they taste ok…..
#7 Running again!
I went for my first run since the marathon yesterday! I started off with some body weight exercises first – including all the things my PT told me to do to strengthen my hips. I will detail my “off season” plans either tomorrow or on Monday. But, after all those drills, I went out for a quick 3K run. My goodness does 3K just feel like a couple of warm-up laps at the track now. I ran the 3K in a reasonable 18:30. All my runs for the next little while will probably be in the 3K-5K range. Might try adding some long runs in as well – but nothing really over 12-14K. Yay off season!
