Thinking Out Loud #30

Linking up with Amanda at Running with Spoons

One of my favorite days of the week as it is track night and afterwards, TV night! Grey’s is back on tonight and it is the last episode of Parenthood. Be warned, I am going to discuss Parenthood in this post – so if you are going through the episodes on Netflix or just behind, watch for the spoiler alert.

#1 Worrrrrrk

It is exam week for me. Exams are both hectic and relaxing. I don’t teach during exam week, but I am very busy. I have had to supervise 3 exams so far (only 1 being my own class). Exam supervisions last at least 2 hours, but it is more like 3 hours by the time you finish up. 3 hours of pure boredom as I basically stare at students. I do occasionally look at my phone though, in case you noticed my “I’m hungry” tweets. I am also working on final grades in the afternoon and figuring out my placement for second semester (which starts on Monday). The placement situation has been a little frustrating but by the end of today, I will for sure know my timetable. Basically, I have a day to turn around and start a new course – love it! (not really)

#2 Ottawa Race Weekend

I am pretty sure I mentioned that I am running both the 5K and the 10K on the Saturday of Ottawa Race Weekend. I run with a bunch of staff and students, and the race is usually tons of fun. I am running both the 5K and 10K for a bit of a challenge, but also to kind of make up for not being able to run the half marathon this year. Although at this point, I think it may have been possible to train for a half – I am leading a water station on the Sunday. My school will be on the marathon course in the Quebec portion (same spot as 2013), handing out water and gatorade to the marathoners. It should be a great time! Let me know if you are running the marathon OR if you want to help out.

#3 Speaking of Marathons

I did hint about it – but I am not putting my name in the hat for NYC 2015. It is just too expensive and I don’t know if I want to train for a marathon again this year. Knowing my luck, I would actually get in. Instead, I am thinking about going down to volunteer instead. I am going to apply to work the finish line – handing out medals is a hard volunteer gig to get, but it would be fun just being there.

#4 Jawbone

Staples Canada sent me a Jawbone UP24 and a bunch of other goodies. Although I will talk about this more next week, it has been fun seeing how many steps I take each day and my sleep patterns. I am not too obsessed with seeing if I make it to 10,000 steps per day – but the sleep pattern part has been very interesting. I hit 10,000 steps quite easily, especially if I’ve done anything active in a day. Exams are putting me through a bit of a loop because I am sitting for long periods. I’ve almost always hit my goal of 7.5 hours of sleep each night, except nights when Max decides to party at 3am. More on the UP24 next week!

#5 Paddington the Bear

Max does not have a great attention span. Although he sat through ‘Frozen’ at the movie theatre, he did not like the Lego Movie at all. The last time we went to the movies was ages ago, and since Max is 3 – we thought, ok, maybe he will sit through a movie. He was all excited about going to see “the bear movie and eat popcorn” and was ok for the first bit. Then he decided that he needed to pee, and wash his hands. Then, much to the amusement of all 10 people in the theatre, he announced “TIME TO POO!!!!”. He meant pee, but still. After that he also announced that he wanted to go home, so we did. I’m hoping that Paddington the Bear escaped that mean taxidermist!

#6 Weather woes

I am glad that we did not get that blizzard that the east coast had earlier this week. I could see the outer edge of the storm from Ottawa, but all we got was a bunch of cold. I am VERY jealous of all the warm temperatures that Alberta has had over the past week. Apparently it was 17C in some parts? The heck?!?! Here in Ottawa, we have been pretty chilly. We had a mild December, but now it just seems like every day is -15C and sunny. I miss being warm – and not feeling frumpy in my winter gear.

#7 Parenthood

If you haven’t heard anything about the final episode and wish to remain clueless – please stop reading

Ok – so for months it has been rumored that there is a death coming on Parenthood. The very obvious death rumor is Zeek, especially since so much of the focus on this season is on his health. BUT – another rumor floating around is that the writers are doing something ‘different’ which might point to someone entirely different – and that not everyone will be happy. The “death pool” is also strongly pointing to Crosby. Who knows! Apparently there is a time jump in the final episode which could mean that anything could essentially happen. I’m thinking that Zeek will die, Julia is pregnant and Max becomes a world famous photographer.

Enjoy your Thursday!

Handing out medals at NYC would be so much fun!! I definitely have to try that sometime at a race. I always love the person that hangs the medal over my neck, so I want to help spread that joy. 🙂

Also, I used to live in Calgary so I have been super envious of their warm weather these past 2 weeks. We’re getting the shaft out here in central Canada!! Oh well, avoiding the snow is a huge bonus in my books too.
