Thinking Out Loud Thursday #27

Happy Thursday!

I like Thursdays because it is almost the end of the week and I get to go to track practice tonight! I’m hoping my TV shows hurry up and come back too.

Another Thinking Out Loud Thursday – linking up with Amanda at Running with Spoons (who also had a birthday this week!)

#1 It is cold!

We are under one of those extreme cold weather warnings with the temperature being colder than -20C and a windchill of almost -40C. Right now, as of 9am it is -23C, -27C with the windchill. Super cold! Of course I thought yesterday “who the heck runs in this?” and then realized that I have run in these conditions before. Remember my MEC race last January? It was that cold! I ran on the treadmill yesterday.

#2 Speaking of the treadmill

Why does it seem like treadmill running is so slow? I tend to run way slower on a treadmill than I do outside and it just seems to take forever. I ran 3.2 miles on the treadmill yesterday, while watching TV at the gym and it was a struggle fest. I’m hoping that the temperature improves soon so I can get back to running outside regularly.

#3 Ottawa Race Weekend

I finally registered for the Ottawa Race Weekend. This year, I have registered for the 10K race on Saturday. I kind of want to try the half marathon again, but it all depends on my work situation for semester two. Since it is sold out, I would have to buy a bib from someone who can no longer race. Maybe I will run two races? One on Saturday, one on Sunday?  My goal 10K is the Sporting Life 10K a few weeks before ORW since ORW tends to be super crowded for the 10K. I have PB’d before in larger races, but the 10K is pretty nuts in the beginning.

#4 Canadian Foods

Although I love my poutine, nanaimo bars and ketchup chips – I am not particularly fond of maple syrup/maple flavoured products. Except maple bacon and syrup on pancakes. Does that make me less Canadian?

I wish I was on a beach right now……

#6 Kindergarten or Not

Max can start kindergarten in September if we want him too. He will only be three when he starts. I don’t think he would have that much difficulty in school – but he is still very little to be starting school. Kindergarten in Ontario is full day now. I don’t really know what they do in kindergarten (when I supply, it is usually for play time) but I cannot really imagine Max doing ‘assignments’ or anything like that yet. We don’t legally have to put Max in school until he is 6 – so we are thinking of a variety of options if we don’t put him in. Fun stuff!

That is all the time I have today – Have a great Thursday!

I’m the same with maple stuff. It can be on my pancakes but that’s about all I really want it on!!

I admit I’m not a fan of JK, especially now that it is full days and they have increased the number of kids in the class. Many JK classes now have 30+ kids. In my opinion, it doesn’t matter what the adult/child ratio is, 30 three and four year olds in a room is nuts. I didn’t send my second the JK and he was just fine 🙂

I’m thinking of doing the Sporting Life 10k too. Love the medal!

Odds are we won’t be sending Max. Paul and I didn’t start school until we were 6 and we are both just fine :-).

Aww, a teddy bear medal! You should definitely sign up – it looks like it will be fun!

Does Canada not have preschool? In the US, 3/4 is preschool age… they’ll learn songs/letters/etc, but it’s not like kindergarten!

We do and we don’t – in Ontario kids can enter school if they turn 4 within a calendar year (so 2011 babies are up next). We have some pre-school/montessori schools in my suburb but so many of them have the world’s crappiest hours for parents that work full-time. I did just find one pre-school that has fairly good hours/program – I’m just hoping it isn’t too expensive 🙁

You’re not alone in the slow treadmill running. I definitely actually run slower on a treadmill, but I kind of love treadmill time because I get to veg out to my favorite bad TV.

Good luck fighting the cold. 🙂

Not going to lie, I’m pretty pumped to be in Vancouver at the moment. It’s hilarious that people are like, “IT’S SO COLD OUT” when it’s like 2 degrees here. They would die in Ottawa.
