Thinking Out Loud Thursday #29

Happy Thursday!

#1 I ran outside!

Yesterday was the first time I ran outside in weeks!  My afternoon school has a run club at lunch, so I went out with four girls and another staff member. It was about -11C/12F when we went out – but with zero wind, so it was actually not too bad! We don’t have lots of time at lunch (45 minutes total), so we only ran 11 minutes out and then turned around. I ran 3.5KM in 21 minutes, which wasn’t too bad. The sidewalks around the school were not too bad in terms of ice. We haven’t had a good dumping of snow in awhile so there is a solid path of bare sidewalk to run on.

#2 My NYC photobook arrived!

I saw an email from Shutterfly earlier in the month for a free photobook ($29 value). I assembled an 8×8 photobook with all my main pictures from the NYC marathon. They had a NYC template to use for $5 extra and I used the template to insert various NYC images throughout the book to make it extra special. I then paid for shipping and the total only came to $12. What a deal! I’m rather impressed with the quality of the book. Makes for a nice keepsake!

#3 Max loves chicken wings?!?

The other night we were at our fave local brewpub, The Clocktower for wings night. We used to go to the Clocktower on a weekly basis back before Max was born. Then we only went sporadically as it tends to be busy/loud. We went the other night and Max behaved himself. He asked for sausages for dinner, but he was satisfied with a hamburger choice (they finally got a kid’s menu!). We ordered an app of wings because it was half off – when the wings arrived, Max said he wanted one. So I gave him one and boom, it was eaten in about 10 seconds. Then, he asked for more, and more. Eventually he ate almost half of our plate of wings. I guess he liked chicken wings? Shouldn’t surprise me since I basically ate wings 2x a week when pregnant 🙂

#4 Ottawa Race Weekend – double special!

I registered for the TORW 5K last week – which means I am running both the 5K and the 10K on the Saturday night. They changed the timing of the 5K last year and moved the race to 4pm, rather than the old 5pm start. The 10K isn’t until 6:30pm, which means that even if I run a conservative 30 minute 5K, I have two hours off in between races. You will probably find me sprawled out on the Laurier Street bridge. The tentative plan is that the Sporting Life 10K on Mother’s Day will be my 10K PB attempt, and TORW will be my 5K attempt. The size of TORW’s 10K means that I might have to do lots of weaving and passing – which means my time will probably be not great. The Sporting Life 10K is half the size and will probably be easier to maintain my pace. I am in the first corral for the 5K and my plan is to go out fast and run with students (who run so darn fast). I might attempt a 10K PB too – who knows!

The next day is all about volunteering! I talked to the race organizers already and I hope to have my school team run a water station – if not, we will be at the finish line! I have a great group of kids already excited to volunteer! It should be another great day (we volunteered as a school in 2012).

#5 PJ WEEK

It is PJ week at my afternoon school – so basically, every day this week at 12pm, I go back into my PJ’s. Don’t worry, clean ones! I’ve been mixing up my PJ bottoms every day – So far I have worn my Bazinga bottoms and my teal snowflakes. I am leaving the monkey PJ’s until Friday!

#6 Speaking of running

I really have to sit down and map out my 10K training plan soon. I’m just waiting until I figure out my work situation for second semester before I really hammer out a plan. I know of my afternoon placement, but still have to wait to hear back about other potential placements. The work placement that I get will determine the pace that I set for my 5K/10K training plans. I will be concentrating on the 5K from Feb. 1st to Around the Bay (8 week plan). I will then change gears after ATB to focus on the 10K with peak for Sporting Life 10K. The first few weeks of 10K training overlap with 5K training, but it should line up fine, or at least I will design a plan that has a nice build to 10K training.

Hope you have a great Thursday! 2nd last Parenthood tonight!

Your photo book is so cool! I have a coupon that I keep meaning to use but, ugh…. I just haven’t been able to get around to putting one together. You’re right about it making such an awesome keepsake, though. And can you believe that we’re currently sitting at +9C?! This kind of thing is unheard of for us in January, so I’m basically doing happy dances all over the place.

The downtown Clocktower was where my husband and I had our first date. Ahh, I remember those days when he and I would regularly eat at a pub, those pre-kid days 🙂
I’ve signed up for the Sporting Life race too, not sure if I will look to PB or just have fun.

I love the Shutterfly picture books. My husband and I put one together for our Anniversary and I have been meaning to put one together for our Africa trip. Someday I’ll get my act together. ☺ I never thought to do one for a race – great idea! Good luck on running goals and 10K training planning!!
