I am back at work today and therefore back to the routine. I was not anticipating being called in early today, so my morning was rather rushed. Combined with some lovely computer issues, it has been a busy morning. I am looking forward to getting back to the gym today – I have a 5K run (maybe) and some weights planned for this afternoon’s workout. I am slightly sad that I have to wear real clothes again, and not just workout gear
As I mentioned in my 2015 goals, one of the things I need to work on is eating more fruits and vegetables. Yesterday I spent some time doing that thing that most of you do – meal prepping. I made some roasted potatoes and zucchini for breakfast and a couscous salad for lunches. I had my potatoes with a fried egg this morning and I am so far still full, success!
The idea behind meal prepping and eating more fruits and vegetables is not to lose weight. Actually, it is the complete opposite. I need to gain a bit more weight and start eating more. If I want to continue with strength training and running during the winter, I need to ensure that I am getting enough food into me to keep up with working out. I am not cutting anything out (well, maybe except for a few less donuts) but adding more. Don’t worry, I still eat lots of ice cream:
I have updated my 2015 race calendar with a few new events. My first race in 2015 will most likely be the Around the Bay 5K, followed by some sort of race in April (possibly Manotick Miler) and then we hit 10K May. I am registered for the Sporting Life 10K and most likely will register for the Ottawa Race Weekend 10K as well. I am toying with the idea of buying a bib for the half (it is sold out), but that depends on my work situation for semester two. I don’t want to be scrambling like I did for last year’s half! Part of me almost wants to sign up for the Around the Bay 30K or even the Ottawa marathon, but my free time is just enough for a longer distance race in the spring.
Which comes to the Fall race schedule. I am planning on running the Army Run Half marathon again. The biggest question will be involving the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon – will I stick with the half marathon or go for another marathon? I’m really not sure. STWM is scheduled a few weeks after the Army Run half and really, I just need to run the 26, 29 and 32K long runs in addition to the training I will be doing for Army run. Even the Army Run can be the 26K run, as long as it doesn’t pour rain again. Unlike the NYC Marathon, STWM doesn’t sell out. I could easily make this decision in September. Part of me just wants to stick with half marathons this year and get that race a bit more solid. But, the other part of me wants a do-over and to smash my marathon “PB”. We will see how the summer goes!
In other marathon news: look what came in the mail! My NYC marathon mini-me! Isn’t it cute? Thanks Asics for making mini-statues of us! Max thought it was funny. He stared at the statue and announced that the “mommy statue should be bigger!”.
Have a great Monday!
