Thinking Out Loud Thursday #33

Happy Thursday!

I actually forgot it was Thursday until I went onto Feedly and saw all the Thinking out Loud posts čÖé

#1 McFarland

I will write a proper review for tomorrow – but if you are a runner, was ever on a Cross Country team, a coach or just like a good movie, go see McFarland! Right now (well, tomorrow). I was able to score tickets to McFarland’s advanced screening in Ottawa. McFarland is a Disney movie, so you know it is going to be a family-orientated film. The movie did not disappoint and is applicable for all ages (no vulgar words, one “violence” related scene and it happens off screen). I will save most of my thoughts for tomorrow, but between the race scenes, the downright funny dialogue and some happy/sad moments, it was a great film. I did laugh outloud when the XC coaches were running around the course, yelling at the runners – because that is what happens at XC meets. I swear I get a running workout in by coaching!

I’m going to Tremblant with the school on Saturday. Should be good times! At first I did not think I would be able to go (only a certain amount of staff spots), but apparently some people don’t like to give up Saturdays, so I was asked to go. I’m so used to spending time after school with teens that it doesn’t bother me at all. I hope I can keep my not-falling-down streak going for another ski adventure.

#3 I ran outside!

It has been awhile, but I ran outside yesterday. It was -8C, which is downright tropical for Ottawa in these past few weeks. I only had time for 3K, but I got out there. It wasn’t cold at all. The temperatures are starting to ease up a bit, so I’m hoping to run outside more often now. I just wish the sidewalks and even the roads were more clear. I had a couple of slipping moments happen. I had to hover between the road and the sidewalks because there were certain sections of road where it was just too unsafe to run on the road. Not enough room/low visibility because of the piles of snow.

#4 Track starts soon

I’ve called a meeting for the track team for tomorrow, with practices starting up March 2nd. It has been two years since I’ve coached a high school team. Can’t wait! It will make me super busy from now until June, but that is ok. The difference between the other seasons and this one, is that now I have 2+ years of competitive coaching experience and can actually properly plan a season. I spent the past two days season planning.

(That is just my practice schedule – I have a more detailed plan in the works)

#5 Stupid pop-ups

As I was writing this post, I was on another blog and they had one of those stupid video pop-up ads appear. Seriously guys – stop that! Nothing is more annoying than having an unwanted video play on surround sound (I’m in my classroom before school). That and those stupid ads that go all around a blog and feature companies like Durex? ┬áThere are ways to block these ads if you are using Google Adsense. Last year I had to block a few types of ads because they were at no way appropriate for my blog – including an ad from a political party that I am in no way supportive of.

#6 Warm and Tropical

When watching McFarland last night, I thought about how nice warm, sunny weather in California would be right now. Luckily for me, in the next few weeks I will get to experience some warm California weather. We are doing a very short, mini-trip in the next month to take care of some business and even though it will be a super short trip, even a bit of warm air will feel so nice! That and I get to go to Trader Joes! Woohoo!

That is all for now – have a great day!

That Macfarland movie looks great. Totally agree about popup ads. It’s not worth the extra money if it means I will stop visiting your site!

Agreed – usually I just read everything through Feedly, but when I want to comment – pop ups! Sometimes I just leave and then don’t comment
