Back to work for me today. It will probably be a fun day since I totally didn’t break one piece of work home with me. I knew I would be busy so I left everything at school. It appears I also left my running gear at the office too, because not much of that happened either! We were traveling for 90% of the week, and I knew that running would be taking a backseat. For the first half of March Break (what we call Spring break) we were in California, the second half we were at Mont Tremblant. I didn’t even pack my running shoes with me to California!
California was a business trip for P, which meant I was alone with Max quite a bit and our hotel did not have a gym. I had no way to run while in California and even if I had some time, I’m not sure I would have felt comfortable running where we were. It was very freaky to not see a SINGLE runner out in Hemet, California. It is a bit of a retirement town, but still – no runners. It wasn’t until I was in the Disneyland area that I finally saw a runner. I guess I’m used to runner-friendly Ottawa where runners are always around. Even in my parents neighbourhood in Mississauga, there are not many runners. Where do they all run at? When we arrived at Tremblant, there was a hotel gym with a treadmill – so that is when I finally got a run in. I knew way ahead of time that this week would be weak in terms of miles, so I’m not really concerned.
Monday March 16 – Thursday March 19 – Nothing!
We were in California (obviously). We were at Disneyland on Wednesday, so I’m pretty sure I got a mini-workout in after walking around for 6+ hours. I was exhausted when we finally checked in to the hotel near LAX (which had a treadmill), so I just ate a burger and went to bed.
Friday March 20 – 2 Mile Treadmill run in 20:00. I managed to hop on a treadmill and get 2 miles in while P and Max played in the playroom next door, which conveniently had a window. The treadmill was not my favorite, but it worked. I also did 30 squats with a pair of 15lbs dumbbells and 20 press+twists with the same dumbbells.
Saturday March 21 – Skiing and 2 mile treadmill run in 19:30 I went skiing on Saturday and because it was busy and snowing, it was a bit more of a workout then usual. My streak of not falling ended on Saturday as I fell twice on the moguls that were created in the very busy sections. I fell in a way that I got my skis twisted and it was such a pain to get out of. Skiing was a bit of a pain in the butt on Saturday because the nicely groomed trails were destroyed by lunch. I wish I could have taken a picture of what the last part of the south side looked like on Saturday night – tons of moguls! I have no clue on how to ski moguls properly + couldn’t see them (I need a better mask!) so boom, down I went. I totally watched people falling later on in the condo – at any given moment there were 4-6 people on the ground and people who were upright were skiing very carefully. I packed it in at 1:30, and went for a 2 mile treadmill run! Afterwards we had a bit of time left before picking up Max at daycare, so I ate poutine and drank beer!
Sunday March 22 – Nothing
Another travelling day and honestly, I was tired. nevermind – i went to the gym and ran 2 miles in 18:40!
I knew this week was going to go this week, so I’m not terribly down about it. It wasn’t like I was sitting down on my butt doing nothing. At least I got three runs in and I can be happy enough with that. Because Around the Bay 5K is next weekend, I have a bit of a top heavy week. I don’t have any plans to run past Thursday, so I’m going to try and squeeze in two 5K runs on Monday and Tuesday and *maybe* a short speed workout at the track on Thursday. Then, bring on the first 5K of the season!
