Spring is the busiest time of year for me. The school year starts to wind down, there are tons of field trips and meetings, plus track and field is in full swing. Track season means I spend at least one day a week out at the track instead of in school. I definitely like it! Tomorrow I’m at the track from 11:30-8pm, sweet! Because I’m constantly running around (literally), at meets and leading practices, I tend to live in athletic gear for most of the season. But, there are some days that I actually have to dress up: parent-teacher interviews, board meets and the best time of the season, job interviews! I have to put the shorts away and actually dress like an adult.
Here is the thing – I actually don’t own much business/formal clothing. I have about 5 dresses, a few pairs of dress pants and a number of skirts. If I was ever called to an important business meeting or say, going to meet the Queen – I would have nothing to wear. Even if I were to go shopping, I would probably have to bring Max and that would mean hurrying around the mall and hoping to find something. Forget trying clothes on because Max just loves to run under the door, play with mannequins and open the door while I’m in my underwear. Luckily, I was given a chance to review a dress from eShakti and have a new dress to add to my limited wardrobe.
eShakti is an online women’s clothing store that offers custom made dresses. The possibilities are endless when it comes to picking out a new outfit. eShakti has everything from dresses to pants. It took me quite a bit of time to pick out something to try. I finally settled on a sleeveless purple dress. I picked the dress because I love purple, really liked the embroidered pattern and the dress fits in a way that if I have a giant meal at lunch, my tummy will not stick out.
But there is more, you can also customize your dress. You have a few choices when it comes to customization – you can either have the dress made specifically to your measurements (which you should ask a friend to help you with), or you can stick with the standard sizing and change things like neckline, sleeve type and hem length, depending on the dress.
The dress I picked out already had a sleeve type that I liked, but I did not really like that the hem line went past my knees. I decided to adjust the hem length to hit just above the knees, a bit more flattering but not too high. The end result is that the dress fits really well, looks good and does not feel like I’m wearing anything fancy. I would definitely wear the dress to dinner or at an important school event. Actually, I think I may wear this to prom (teachers are invited to prom again – long story, but I’m excited!). The dress even has pockets! Who doesn’t love a dress with pockets? I could also wear this dress in a few different ways. I could wear flats, wear capri-tights, or wear a cardigan. Lots of possibilities with this dress.
I do have to say that normally I do not write fashion posts – I’m not the most “fashion aware” person out there but it was fun. However, with Ottawa winter happening still, it was hard to take some nice pictures of the dress. I wish I could go outside in a dress and not freeze or have pictures of dirty-snow piles! Also, I thought about “accessorizing” the dress to show how I would wear the dress when going to work. However, these days I go to work with a backpack and several pairs of running shoes. Do you still think the dress looks good, shoes, garmin and all?
