Two track practices on the agenda for tonight! It is going to be a busy day! Time for Thinking Out Loud Thursday – linking up with Amanda at Running with Spoons.
Ok – you better have seen last week’s episode. Otherwise, spoiler alert?
I’m not really angry that Derek Shepard is dead. Shonda (the creator of the show) is known for killing off characters. As soon as you hear “so and so had a fight with Shonda”, you can probably figure out that the particular character that actor plays is going to exit the show in some way. Rarely do Grey’s characters have “nice” goodbyes. The only real exception is Cristina Yang. I liked her ending and it seemed to fit her character. We all knew it was coming, but final push for Cristina to leave was well written. Derek’s death was not well written. Yes – it was very heavily foreshadowed. If you were honestly surprised that he was hit by a truck, you missed quite a large amount of hints. Derek’s death also mirrored what happened to George when he was killed. George was barely featured in (I think what was) Season 5, to test to see if the show could continue without a major character. Then – boom – hit by a bus. George’s exit was a surprise and is still, what I think, the #1 death of the show. I even watched the clip when Meredith figures out that the disfigured man is George and I can still remember the shock that I had when I originally watched the episode. Last week’s episode was sub-par. As soon as Derek stopped in the middle of the road when he realized where his phone was (seriously? SERIOUSLY? Who does that), I started a countdown for when something bad was going to happen. Boom, there is a truck. It could have been done so much better. Let’s hope tonight’s episode is better!
#2 Last night at the Dome!
Tonight the track team says GOODBYE to our indoor track for the season. I definitely will not miss the crowded track and dark lighting. It will be nice to be outdoors next week on a full 8-lane track (plus soccer fields and a 80m strip up on top of the facility) where pretty much everyone has room to practice. Thursday nights were just crazy at the dome because every single group practiced on Thursdays. I will miss the 5 minute drive though. Tomorrow we have our first outdoor meet of the year.
#3 Speaking of being outdoors
Who in Ottawa is excited about this:
Finally a good stretch of warm weather. Yesterday I had the car windows open, wore a skirt to work and at one point “felt sweaty-warm”. So much better than those cold days at the beginning of the month. I think it is finally time to say goodbye to the snow tires and goodbye to my running tights. Seriously – putting them away at the beginning of May (I wore them last week!). Let’s hope that the nice 20C days stick around for a bit and we don’t just jump to 30C with humidity.
#4 Goals for TORW
In just over a week, I’m running the Sporting Life 10K. It WILL be a PB race since I can pretty much run, cartwheel and talk to random strangers and beat my last 10K race time of 1:08. I have run significantly faster than 68 minutes on several occasions, including in the Army Run Half Marathon, but I always like my PB/PR’s to be from official results. This is why my 5K PR is 24:52 (official chip time from SportsStat from ATB) not the 24:17 that my Garmin recorded. I am pretty sure that the Garmin was wonky for the first KM in that race so I don’t think 24:17 is accurate. Just like yesterday when apparently I ran 1K in 3:16. What am I, Lanni Marchant? I don’t think so! Anyways – back on 10K talk. I am going to aim for a sub-55 for Sporting Life, maybe just sub-58. It will most definitely be a sub-60, as I could have run around 58 minutes on Sunday with lots of fuel left in the tank. Then I have to think about The Ottawa Race Weekend. I am running both the 5 and the 10K on Saturday night. Since this could be my last 5K for awhile, I am going to attempt to PB the 5K one more time this year (TORW is flat and fast). That leaves the 10K up in the air for what I want to do in that race. Odds are, PBing the 5K is going to make me a bit tired. I have 2 hours to recover from the race and then run 10 more KM. I don’t think I can PB both, but I think maybe another sub-60 might be in the books. I do have to start practicing double-runs soon.
#5 What is the world..
Is Kombucha? I keep reading about it on certain blogs and have no idea what it is or why people drink it. I just looked on Google and it sounds revolting. Is it good?
#6 Passport Photos
Max needs his passport renewed and therefore we had to go and get another passport picture taken. Do you know how hard it is to get a happy 3 year old to NOT smile for a photograph. 15 minutes and probably 20 pictures later, we were finally able to get a neutral expression photo taken. Max thought it was great fun. He was posing, making faces and laughing the entire time.
Alrighty – Time to get to work. Have a great day!
