Whoa, two posts in one day? Today I am linking up with a bunch of other Canadian bloggers for a “Day in the Life” post. I’ve done a few of these before, but this time I tried to take some more pictures 🙂 See the links below for other bloggers participating.
A bit of a different day in the life because I did absolutely NO physical activity or coaching. I’m on a bit of a running ban this week, so I seem to have more free time! Here is what I do on an average school day with no sports:
A Day in the Life!
6:45am – who needs an alarm clock when Max will run into your room and yell at you to wake up. He tells me it is morning and to come downstairs.
7:00am – I have a coffee and watch some Curious George. Some days we have to leave at this time, but I don’t have to arrive at school until later – so I relax instead
7:30am – Time to shower and get ready for school. I did had lots of clean laundry so dressing for work was no big deal today. Sometimes I stare at the closet for 10 minutes.
8:00am – I put some finishing touches on my Ottawa Race Weekend 5K recap
8:25am – We are running a bit late today. But off to Daycare we go!
8:35am – Drop off Max at the daycare. He just goes to a home-based daycare. He goes to cheer up his friend who is sad because his sister isn’t going to daycare that day – the poor lil guy is sitting by the window looking for her.
8:45am – Stop by Tim Hortons for a dark roast and a blueberry muffin. I fail at taking a picture…
9:00am – arrive at school – there are more cars there! This is a picture of our beautiful Ottawa River path!
9:15am – I have a prep period. So I do some computer work. This is my wordpress stuff open – but I also print off some rubrics, get them photocopied and then start marking some photography projects.
10:30am – first class. They are in the middle of video projects. They work, I assist as necessary. Lots of technical errors using the programs this time. I have to get a few kids to resend me their projects a few times before it finally works.
11:50am – LUNCH! I fail to take a picture. I reheat my spaghetti and quickly walk to a meeting at lunch. The meeting takes the entire 40 minutes we have for lunch. I eat my pasta in a chair and also eat an apple. Luckily I have a few spare minutes to hit up the bathroom before my next class
12:35 – Next class! Today we are doing mock interviews. I interview 15 students as if they were applying for a part-time job. I ask them 2 questions and then give them feedback on their answers. They get LOTS of feedback because they usually do not answer the questions well. Interviewing is something that needs to be practised! I get the interviews done with one minute to spare.
2:00pm – I’m only a part-time teacher, and since I’ve already been at school for a prep period. I am free to leave. I grab my stuff and get out of there. Usually I would go running – but no running for me this week. Look at my Garmin, it is all sad and not charged
2:15pm – I decide to head to the mall to look for shorts. I have almost no shorts that fit other than my running shorts. I quickly get frustrated because the shorts are either too short, too long or don’t fit. Most that have a good length fit well on my waist, but are too tight because of my quad muscles. #runnerproblems
2:30pm – LOOK AT THIS SHIRT! It has sequins and everything!
3pm – Head back home to make a few phone calls. I did plan on cleaning up this disgusting mess of an office. But that didn’t happen. This is what my office looks like during heavy running/coaching weeks. There is actually more mess….
4pm – Head to daycare to pick up Max. I also have a snack. I got these bars at the race expo. I need to buy more – they are delicious!
4:05pm – Take 5 minutes to get myself ready to go out in the rain. It is pouring!
4:30pm – Max is picked up. He made a sock puppet at daycare.
4:45pm – arrive at home. Start getting text messages regarding some track stuff. Guess it is time to write those emails I should have typed over the weekend. I write three separate emails to parents, students and the school regarding our Brockville trip later this week. Max usually joins me in my office and “writes notes”.
5:45pm – Start thinking about dinner. Spaghetti and roasted broccoli. Yup – spaghetti two meals in a row. I love pasta! Once again, fail at taking pictures….Max wants to help make dinner. He wants to put the pasta in the water – I have to tell him he cannot because it is too hot. He gets mad.
6:15pm Dinner is served. Max thinks he can be sneaky and not eat his broccoli. Normally he inhales it. He keeps saying “I’m done!”. But I make sure he gets some veggies in.
6:30pm – We play with Max. Normally this would be bike ride/park time – but it is raining heavily outside. Max is fine with playing “chase” and having a sleep over in his room with his stuffed animals and toys. I also put in a load of laundry
7:45pm – Time to get Max ready for bed. He insists on a bath because “he is dirty” and we also brush our teeth. He also runs around naked yelling “I am a naked boy!”
8:30pm – Max is ready for bed. He asks for some milk and then promptly tells me to “go away, I need my sleep!”. He doesn’t make a peep for the rest of the evening.
9:00pm – Time for a little TV time. I have some Race Weekend stuff to watch still.
10:00pm – I go up to bed to read for about 30 minutes and then go to sleep. I think I feel asleep in all of 30 seconds. One of the benefits of having a busy weekend!
