Busy day today – I’m at school in the morning and then heading to Brockville for a track meet at lunch! Hopefully we have some student-athletes making their way to the Provincial Championships (OFSAA) next week!
Thinking Out Loud Thursday – linking up with Amanda at Running with Spoons
#1 I’m an Influencer?
This report popped up on Twitter last night, naming the top influencers of The Ottawa Race Weekend. Probably no surprise that I was listed – since I tend to tweet quite a bit about TORW 🙂 The media company wanted to see who was tweeting the most, especially looking at the “Team Awesome” group (similar to the STWM Digital Champs). I was one of three non-Team Awesome people listed in the group. I actually know most of the people on that list. All of us do engaging on Twitter!
#2 Crop Tops
News in Toronto this week about a Crop Top Day, in protest of the school dress code and how sometimes schools say that the way girls dress “distracts the boys” or sexualizing their outfits. While I do agree that the school dress code shouldn’t be focused just on what the girls are wearing – I do disagree with several of the reasons on why students are wearing crop tops. One of the big reasons, given that it is hot and humid in Ontario is that students are hot/sweaty and they want to wear comfortable clothes. As a teacher, it doesn’t matter if it 15C or 40C, there is no way I am EVER wearing anything that shows that amount of skin when I’m working. When I’m at home or the beach? Sure! Work, never. The same idea goes with when I run with students – when I’m on my own, I will wear a tank top. When I’m working out/running with students: t-shirt. Many comments that were made were questions whether schools ever told boys to cover up. Welcome to my school – everyone must be covered up: boys, girls and male/female staff. Boys in my school have been told that they cannot wear tank tops either. So, we made it an “everyone” rule and everyone cannot wear a tank top to school. Even a staff member was told to wear a t-shirt once. Another tweet that made me a bit angry was that some people on twitter were making fun of girls who were a bit bigger wearing crop tops saying “they shouldn’t dress like that” – ok, so you can only wear crop tops if you have skinny? Can’t everyone wear crop tops? Bigger girls get hot/sweaty too?
And we are going to end this rant 🙂
#3 No Running still
My leg is still out of wack. I haven’t run since Saturday and most likely won’t until next week. What am I going to do with all this time? Oh right….track meets! I did have a massage again yesterday. I’m also icing it every day. If my left leg doesn’t start cooperating next week, I’m going to have to see the Physio people. I’m 99% sure it is a tendon issue. Hopefully more rest and ice makes it better!
#4 Where are the Thunderstorms 🙁
I haven’t heard a crack of Thunder yet this spring. There have been thunderstorms in the Ottawa area, but Orleans tends to be this safe place where lightning doesn’t go. All these thunderstorms last week died just as they approached Orleans. Makes me sad.
#5 I have no recent pictures to show you
So let’s do a #TBT and put some random pictures from months/years past:
