Thinking Out Loud #47

Another Thinking Out Loud Thursday – Linking up with Amanda at Running with Spoons

#1 Prom!

Last night was my school’s prom. It was the first prom in 10 years that it was a “school sanctioned event” meaning that teachers/admin would be in attendance. In previous years, “prom” (quotation marks on purpose) was just a dinner with several other schools at the Museum of History (aka Museum of Civilization) with no dancing, followed by “after prom” (also in Quebec where the drinking age is 18) which, well, you can probably imagine what happens 😉

I’m not sure why the switch was made, but we made prom a school event again. This year prom was held at the Château Laurier in downtown Ottawa. It was a beautiful location and the room was really nice. The dinner however wasn’t the best as it was rubber chicken. At least we had candy bowls!  The students seemed to have a good time – with many hitting up the dance floor for a few hours. After a few hours, they started taking off the the after prom parties, which was to be expected. Plus, since we were on clean up duty, we really didn’t want them hanging around until midnight 😉

I did “dress up” for the event. Do you recognize the dress? It was my eShakti dress that I reviewed. It was perfect for chaperoning as it was a nice dress, but wasn’t over-doing it.

I also found an elephant hat??

Although dinner wasn’t the greatest – it was made up by a POUTINE BAR!

#2 Speaking of eShakti

Summer Is Here

They have a few new lines on their website, focusing on themes like Contemporary and Bohemian styled products. Not only do they have dresses, but they also have pants, tops, skirts and more. With the new themes, you can easily search for a particular style, then for a particular type of clothing (dress, shirt, skirt) and then customize your look with custom styling and sizing. There truly is something for everyone. The new design of the site makes it easier to find something that you are looking for and then giving you tons of options

I really like this pattern dress – so many colours!

#3 Questions….

The other day, someone asked “How can you have abs and a muffin top at the same time??”

I have to answer that question with a statement by someone else:

“I’ve never seen someone who does so much track and so much running eat so many sprinkled donuts”.

Mystery Solved!

#4 Max-isms

Kids do say the darndest things sometimes. Max sometimes comes up with some random sentences like:

Max: “Mom, you need to go to the store and get me a sad card”

Me: “why, are you sad?”

Max: “yes, I’m sad because I have a big cut and I need a get well card”

(how does he know about get well cards?!?!”

“Oh no, Santa is coming today and he is bringing me cake, balloons and fire!”

– in the middle of June. His birthday is close to Christmas, so I’m guessing he associates Santa with his Birthday. Fire = candles

After coming downstairs in something other than athletic wear:

“MOM – you look gorgeous! Are you going dancing?!?”

#5 Ice Cream!

I don’t remember the last time I had a chocolate dipped cone, but I was by a Dairy Queen the other day and had to have one. It was so good!

Alrighty – time to go! Have a great Thursday!

If there is one way to make me feel old, it’s prom! LOL. That is cool they went back to what they used to do. That conversation also sounds like something my parents would have said to me as well.

I’m obsessed with that dress. I love the modern preppy look myself. I’m glad I found your blog today!

I’m glad we went back to regular prom – there were tons of kids there that would have never gone before and they had a blast.

Ooh, what is poutine? It looks good!! And your dress looks PRETTY!! I had a dipped cone for the very first time last year at Dairy Queen. A very unique experience. I liked it!

Oh my goodness! Poutine is a delicious mix of fries (chunky is best), gravy and cheese curds. Proper poutine has homemade gravy and actual cheese curds, not shredded cheese.
