Another one of those “life milestones” happened today: Max went to the dentist for the first time! Weird enough – Max has wanted to go to the dentist for awhile now. He has noticed P going to the dentist some evenings and he wanted in the fun. We have really started to get into the routine of brushing our teeth lately and we finally got rid of the pacifier/suce (Sucette, or plain Suce is how you say it in French) a few weeks ago. So I figured it was time for a dentist trip. Speaking of the suce (if I’m even spelling that right) – Max really only had it for naps and bedtime. Sometimes he would try and get it during the day. Over the last month or so he started asking for it all the time. We started telling him that the su-su fairy was coming to take his suce away. One morning, the suce was gone! We looked and looked and could not find it. Darn! That was the end of that. Only two nights he cried in bed (nearly broke my heart).
To lead up to the dentist. We talked to Max about what the dentist/hygienist would do. We practiced “opening wide” and all that jazz. Every day this week, I reminded him that it was almost time to go to the dentist. When we arrived, I reminded him to say “good morning” to everyone (he did) and that he could play with the toys while he waited. He was super excited!
When it was time to go into the room – he proudly marched up and sat down on the chair with the biggest grin on his face. The gave him batman sunglasses to wear (to get some of the bright light out of his eyes) and told him about every instrument they would use. He kept looking around and wanted to see and touch everything. When it came to examining his teeth – Max thought it was fun and did whatever the hygienist asked him to do. He didn’t even flinch when she flossed his teeth! No problems with his teeth, just a bit of an overbite from that darn suce!
When he was done, he got a goody bag filled with a mask, gloves, tooth brush, floss and tooth paste. Max also got to pick a few things from the treasure box. Lucky guy!
After I dropped him off at daycare – it was my turn. P and I are in the middle of purchasing life insurance, and I had my “medical exam” today. I had urine and blood samples taken, my vitals were also measured (apparently my blood pressure was low?) and all the fun questions. I’m pretty boring, so it was over quite quickly. She had to be really specific about one of the urine samples as it was sealed and was the sample for “drug testing”. Not like I’m worried – I’ve never taken, smoked or snorted (lol) anything ever! I’m even pretty boring in terms of those medical questionnaires. Almost everything I had an answer for, was running related.
Max tonight brushed his teeth 3x with his new toothbrush and was asking to go to the dentist again. He is too funny!
Have a great night – I’m about to watch Amazing Race Canada!
PS – Congrats to Suzi who won a jar of Cookie Butter – I shall be emailing you tomorrow!
