Thinking Out Loud Thursday #51

Thursday – This Thursday is extra exciting!

Linking up with Amanda at Running with Spoons.

#1 Today is the Day!

I am going to the Pan Am Athletics events tonight – super excited. My Mom and I are going tonight – and tomorrow I’m going on my own. I have front row seats for both days. Tonight, I will be around the 200m start line, tomorrow at the 100/110m start line. After watching last night’s broadcast, it looks like I will be on TV at some point because that robot-camera goes right down the stands. Look for me on the TV – I will be wearing my red Canada hat and we will have a Canada Flag. Tonight the focus is totally on Lanni and Tasha. It should be an exciting race, especially since Desiree Linden is also racing.

#2 Speaking of Lanni

There is a “shake out run + pints” happening on Saturday in Toronto if anyone is interested. We are meeting at 11am for a run, then heading for beerz at the Molson Canadian House afterwards. Should be fun – come on out if you are in Toronto! Thanks to my parents for watching Max….again! 😉

and yes – I am going to break my “no running” rule – just once…..

#3 I went to Trader Joe’s!

Yesterday we went on a little trip to Niagara Falls and NY State for food purposes. Max really wanted to see “the big falls” so we took him for a walkabout around the Canadian side. He liked it. He really wanted to go on the Maid of the Mist. But – I didn’t feel like waiting in line nor spending who know how much money on a boat ride. After the falls, we went to NY state for Cheesecake Factory and Trader Joe’s shopping. We went over the Rainbow Bridge side, and it did not take us long to get over the border. We stopped at the Cheesecake Factory first and had a very unhealthy, but delicious lunch. Then, we headed to Trader Joe’s. I bought very little chocolate this time and no Cookie Butter as I have tons at home still. I focused more on frozen products and products that I cannot bring on carry-on (I’m heading to California soon). I bought Mandarin Chicken, Key Lime Pie, Cuban Black Beans, Taquitos, yogurt and a variety of other things. Notice the three packs of the same cookie – they are amazing and I could totally eat a whole bag! Oh and those chocolate covered, peanut butter pretzels! They had a shortage for the longest time and it is the first time I’ve been able to get a bag in years. Yummy!

#4 Chicken and Waffles BURGER

One of the restaurants I frequent in Ottawa is “The Works”. It is a gourmet burger restaurant that makes good quality, unique burgers. I go there after almost every race. The Works sometimes makes very unique burgers, including the Christmas Dinner Turkey Burger (Turkey, Cranberry Sauce and stuffing!) and burgers with things like deep fried bacon. This summer they created a Chicken and Waffles Burger. That is right – a chicken burger with waffles as a bun! They also put bacon on it (because bacon goes with everything), a fried egg and this delicious maple BBQ sauce. It.was.amazing.

Go try it!

That is all I have for today! I need to get cracking on my course work so I can head to York University around 2pm. If you are also coming tonight – see you there??

You went to Trader Joe’s! I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve planned on going there, but never quite made it. Whole Foods seems to be a regular whenever I’m down in the States, but I never seem to run into a TJs. One of these days I’m going to have to hit it up and see what all the fuss is about…

It’s nice that you’re close enough to Niagara Falls that you can go for a little trip! I haven’t been there in years.
