Thinking Out Loud Thursday #57

Happy Thursday!

It is the return of long-day Thursdays for me as I have track after school. Since I’m already in the area, I just stick around here and don’t go home. Makes for a bit of a long day, but a fun day!

Anyways – time for another Thinking Out Loud Thursday, linking up with Amanda at Running with Spoons.

#1 BEER RUN

It is time for another year of the Ottawa Beer Run! This race sold out very quickly as it is very popular and fairly small in size due to logistical reasons. This year they have two route, a 9K and a 15K (the 15K has more brewery stops). I’m running the 15K this year. The route is a bit different and this year we are starting in the Byward Market. Should be a good time! Tonight is Bib pickup night at Lowertown Brewery. If you are attending the Beer Run, it is crucial that you pick up your bib today unless you want to lug a t-shirt and other goodies around for 15K. Maybe see you there tonight? I will be going in before track.

#2 Commuting again

The new school isn’t too far away from Orleans – actually one of the closer ones for me. BUT – it still requires leaving Orleans which is always so much fun. Orleans is separated from the city by a large Greenbelt area, which means that there are limited ways of getting to and from the suburb. Ottawa is getting an LRT, and because of the construction, the roads have changed a bit. The last couple of days have been busy on the roads. I’ve never seen the 174 backed up so often on good weather days. I’ve avoided the highway and just take Innes Road, which still gets backed up. Not sure who designed the roads, but on both Innes and the 174 the lanes go from 2 to 3 to 2 to 4 and that seems to be causing some back ups. At least my commute is 40 minutes or so MAX.

#3 STWM Elite Announcement

Today STWM will be announcing another Canadian Elite athlete who will be running STWM. The only clue is that it is a woman and she is fast. Krista Duchene is already announced which pretty much leaves Rachel Hannah and Lanni Marchant. The runner will be in Toronto today for run that is open to anyone. Rachel Hannah is a very good guess as she is ranked #2 for marathon times this year, despite this being her debut year. She is also from Toronto which would make her appearance tonight easy. Lanni has not announced her Fall marathon yet (she she even runs one) – and her #1 choice is coming up in a couple of weeks. She is attempting an Olympic Qualifying time so flat and fast is key. I wonder who it will be?
5pm edit – IT IS LANNI!!!!!!! Yay!!!!

#4 NYC Marathon/NYC Half

I know that I have a big race with STWM coming up – but at the same time I wish I was running NYC again too. It is such a fun marathon to run. I did not put my name in the draw this year, but will probably put it in for next year. I’m also waiting for the draw entry for the NYC Half Marathon to start. The NYC Half is usually run during my March Break, which makes it really easy for me in terms of driving logistics. The NYC Half is in Manhattan and runs through Central Park, Times Square and then down to the Wall Street area. You get to run way more of Central Park and obviously see a bit more of the city in the NYC Half than the Marathon. The big idea with the NYC Marathon is that your run in every single borough – so the Manhattan part is not even half of the race and concentrates on the upper half of Manhattan Island. You don’t go more south than the bottom of Central Park. So, definitely a race that I want to do. It does mean winter running though……..

I’d love to do the NY half as well. It seems like such an awesome course. And I am certain I’ll be entering the lottery for the NY marathon again soon as well.

NYC Half’s route is pretty amazing – hoping to get in! NYC might take me 5 years to get in again – but at least I can save all the $$ it requires to race that one!
