I haven’t blogged that much in awhile. It is one of those busy teacher times with report cards due soon. The actual process of writing report cards is not the problem – but more than a pile of other things get tackled on at the same time (like tracking down overdue assignments which is a process). Having been away from school last week, I am paying catch up. Also, I’m switching schools on Wednesday, which means I have to get a pile of other things done. Oh and I have parent teacher interviews all evening tomorrow (Which means no track – pity). Then I have to be at school for 6:30am on Friday to take the team to OFSAA Cross Country. At least I get to sleep on the bus.
Anyone else going to OFSAA??
#2 Red Cups
Red Cups are back at Starbucks. All they are this year are red cups. A little underwhelming. There are lots of nice travel mugs/coffee mugs though. Also, they came up with another reuseable cup with JOY written in red. I had a reward drink so I have already had my first Peppermint Mocha.
#3 CFB Greenwood
As mentioned last week – I went on a trip to CFB Greenwood last week with about 30 other women from Eastern Ontario, Quebec and the Maritimes. It was very informative as they took us to pretty much every part of the base to show us the different careers the military has to offer. It was also focused on women in the military – so every place we went to, we met the women who worked in those units/squadrons. We visited the museum as well. The museum is mainly staffed by volunteers – those who gave us the tour were all retired RCAF members. We were hosted by staff from the main recruiting centre and they were so much fun. We also were shown what the physical test was for all members of the CF. Mostly sandbag related tests. I tried two and passed two – including dragging over 240lbs of sandbags (shown below). Yesterday, I had some recruiters in my school to talk about the options the Canadian Forces has to offer.
The photos above are all from the first big day of tours. On the second day we were on the secure part of the base where cell phones are not allowed. But, one of the image tech’s took a bunch of pictures of us. They will send us the pictures later. We also got to try out the flight simulator – one of the CF pilots (and the first woman to fly the Aurora) flew with us. The simulator was a motion one and seriously, it was super realistic! They gave us “DND Boarding Passes” (DND = Department of National Defence) in case we vomited. Nobody did!
Alrighty – time to get this super long work day going!
