Another Thinking Out Loud Thursday – linking up with Amanda at Running with Spoons.
#1 – Long time, No Post
I’ve been rather busy finishing up my teaching qualification course. My final project is due tomorrow and is rather painful. I’ve been working on the assignment at basically every free moment that I have. It isn’t a hard assignment, just tedious. I am looking forward to being finished with this course! It does open the door to teaching a new subject next semester.
#2 Parade of Lights
Every year my suburb puts on a “Parade of Lights” down the main street. It basically shuts the suburb down as the main street cuts off the lower part of Orleans from the top part. There are ways of getting around, but you have to go way out of the way to get there. I’ve gone almost every year. Last year I brought Max and he couldn’t have cared less about it. He played in the dirt instead.
This year he was so excited that from 4pm until the parade started he asked me every 5 minutes if the parade was ready yet. He watched the entire thing and didn’t play in the dirt until after Santa had past.
Athletic Canada’s Cross Country Championship was last weekend and it featured some pretty stellar races. The Senior Women’s race was filled with some of Canada’s top runners. Lanni Marchant, Natasha Wodak, Rachel Hannah, Rachel Cliff and Sasha Gollish were all there (amongst other great runners). There were also some younger runners there as well (Youth/Junior divisions) and the Master’s race. There were a number of master runners there and a few of us here in Ottawa thought it might be fun to join in on the Master’s 8K next year (ACXC is in Kingston for the new few years). You do need an Athletics Canada number (I have one for coaching), but that is pretty simple to get from your province’s association.
#4 Speaking of Running:
Run Ottawa has the last free 5K of 2015 this Saturday at the Museum of Agriculture. I’m pretty sure I’m going. If you are interested, sign up here. There are some prizes too 🙂
#5 – Speaking of Run Ottawa
Yesterday it was announced that Run Ottawa will be taking over the organization of Emilie’s Run. Emilie’s Run is a women’s only 5K that is named in memory of Emilie Mondor, a Canadian Olympian who tragically passed away in a car accident in 2006. I’ve run this race twice, but haven’t run it in years. The race will continue to be on the same day and in the same place. This race is FAST – so if you are looking for a sweet 5K to smash a PR/PB, this one is for you. More details here.
#6 – Keurig My K-Cup for 2.0’s
Remember my review of the Keurig K200. One of the big drawbacks for people when they were considering purchasing a 2.0 machine was that you couldn’t use My K-cup, a reusable filter with which you can add your own coffee. Keurig finally came out with a new my K-cup. I already purchased mine. I think I am still going to purchase k-cups for the half and half Green Mountain coffee – but we are probably just going to use regular ol’ coffee grinds for other coffee times.
TIme to start class! Have a great Thursday!
