Thinking Out Loud #77

Happy Thursday!

Another Thinking Out Loud Thursday, linking up with Amanda at Running with Spoons.

#1 Registration Time?

Twitter and Facebook are all exploding with both advertisements and posts about registration for kindergarten. I guess I’m supposed to be doing that for Max soon? The big “registration week” is this week, but with exams in the AM (I still teach in the PM), that isn’t happening. Maybe next week? I have no idea how this works, especially since we are moving in the summer. I did put Max on all the before/after care waiting lists. At least I did that

#2 Leg is getting better

I haven’t been running at all, but focusing on making sure my leg calms down. I have been cycling instead of running. I switched out my shoes and put inserts into my boots and my post tib has responded well. I’m probably going to wait until Monday to start running again and have a light week before really getting into marathon training. I’m probably also going to get into the massage therapist next week as well.

#3 Skating Time

I bought Max some hockey skates since he asked me 10000000x to “play hockey” last week. I purchased used skates from Play it Again Sports, but they barely look used. He actually did pretty well for his first time skating. But, Max thinks he can automatically “play hockey” and gets frustrated when he tried to skate with a hockey stick in his hand. Unfortunately it looks like it is going to start raining on Sunday, so we might only get a little bit of practice in before the ice melts again.

#4 Exam Snacks

My geography class had its exam on Tuesday.Since the exam is in the morning, I figured it would be nice to give them a snack while they spent 1.5hrs writing the test. Some of my students do not eat breakfast in the morning and when I used to write exams, being hungry was the worst. So, I made some chocolate chip oatmeal muffins. They enjoyed the muffins.

#5 Speaking of Snacks

At my other school, one of my colleagues finally got a “contract” teaching position, which means she is moving schools next week. We also found out we are birthday buddies and have our birthdays one day apart. So I figured that cupcakes were in order. We ate them all. The cupcakes come from Orleans Bakery and are amazing. That S’mores one was topped with marshmallow icing.

Do you want to eat the computer screen yet?

You can register any time for kindergarten, so it’s not a panic. The earlier it is just makes it easier for the school to start planning numbers. If you are not sure where you will be living though you probably want to wait a bit so you can register for your home school. If you end up in Kanata north Max could be at my school 😊

That’s so sweet of you to bring snacks for your kids! I’m basically useless without food in me, so I remember always making sure to pack a tonne of snacks for exams… otherwise I wouldn’t be able to think!

Those cupcakes though! So glad your leg is getting better, sounds like you’re treating your injury just right to get onto recovery.

Being very, very cautious! I wasn’t super cautious last time and it just took too long for my leg to feel better. I’m still at 17 weeks to go which gives me more than enough wiggle room to just rest the leg

That was so nice of you to make snacks for your class! I would have loved it if any of my teachers did that when I was in school
