Another Thinking Out Loud Thursday – linking up with Amanda at Running with Spoons.
#1 Later Telus!
I did it – I made it to the end of my cell phone contract without switching out my phone early! I decided to not go and get a new phone because the cost of new phones these days, even with a 2-year agreement is silly stupid expensive. At this point I could go to another cell phone company, or upgrade. All the new 2 year plans are also really expensive (Canadian probz) and I just don’t use the plan as much as I should. So, after talking to some of my colleagues I figured it might be a good idea to go the pre-paid/no plan route. I don’t use my phone as a phone and have apparently only talked on my phone for 5 hours total in 2 years. I do use data, but I’m also hooked up to wifi most of the time. I looked around and figured that Koodo might be a good idea because you don’t need to spend $$ on unlocking your phone from Telus (Telus and Koodo are related). I bought a sim card and after a few registration forms, I had officially switched over from Telus to Koodo. I pay $15 a month for unlimited texting (something I actually use my phone for) and loaded my phone with data and minutes. I have something like 600 minutes that never expire and probably will barely use. Data is something I do use, but even with say the $15 monthly charge and 1 gig of data at $30 – it is still way less (almost half) than my other plan.
#2 Grey’s is Returning Next Week – along with other shows
February is looking like a great month for TV watching. After a long hiatus, Grey’s is back on next Thursday. Also returned soon is Better Call Saul. Even more exciting is the return of Full House on Netflix – it is going to be corny, but that is part of the fun of the show. But, as most of you already know, Netflix has an even bigger return coming up – GILMORE GIRLS. Yes, the revival is happening, although it will be one time and only 4 super long mini-movie episodes. Most of the cast is returning, as well as it is being written by GG creator, Amy Sherman-Palladino. Amy did not write the last season, so the revival should bring GG back a bit to what made the show really good. Apparently (since I’m just reading an article as I type this), the four episodes will NOT be released all at once. Exciting news – can’t wait! My Mom might even get a Netflix account.
#3 New Semester + a Snow Day
We had a non-snow day, snow day yesterday. My school board never closes for snow days – we always stay open and have stayed open every day since the late 1990’s (ice storm). The buses do cancel and yesterday was one of those days. Most secondary schools have very little yellow school bus service so most students just go to school. But my two schools are heavily bused and very few students show up. I had 2 students in my AM class and zero in my PM class. Staff have to show up and yesterday we were actually all working on report cards, and start of the semester stuff. I’m teaching Comm Tech in the mornings, which is what I taught last year. I have a much bigger class and want to change a few things from last year. We are also responsible for yearbook production. It can be super busy! My prep for the class is largely just messing around with photoshop right now, rather than creating powerpoints/handouts. I’ve always said that I prefer teaching hands-on courses, so it fits.
#4 PD Day Food
We had a PD Day on Monday. Because I was switching schools, I went to all three schools that day. My afternoon class had a “Soup-Off” for lunch and it was delicious! There was about 8 or so different soups, along with Subway sandwiches and salad. Delicious! We are going to Laser Quest tomorrow – I haven’t been to Laser Quest in years.
That is all for today – have a great Thursday!
