The Ottawa Marathon is still a number of weekends away, but I already know what shorts I will be wearing on race day: Brooks Racey Shorts!
I received the shorts just before the new year and have worn them every single week since. The Racey shorts have a 3.5″ inseam, which for me is a perfect size. I am not the biggest fan of shorts that are too short or too long. Too short and I feel like people can see way too much and too long just doesn’t look right. 3.5″ seems to work for me. The fabric is made out of DriLayer material to keep moisture away. I wore these shorts on that beautiful Christmas Eve and regularly wear them at the gym and at the indoor track. The outfit I’m wearing in this photo is essentially my “coaching outfit”. I think I wear that shirt (Distance Long Sleeve) every Thursday at track.
The Racey shorts feature a wide waist band that will be appreciated by runners who, like me, might have a bit of a belly. The waistband does have a small pocket, but does not have a zipper. Personally, I do like a zipper for my pocket as I’m terrified I will lose things like keys or money without one. The shorts come in a few colours, including that bright neon colour. Mine are charcoal and go with pretty much everything. The shorts also have a petal hem for ease of movement. I find that some of my other shorts are a bit restricting and I do prefer shorts that are a bit more free flowing. I was given a size small and it does run true to size.
Side note: I am looking forward to spring arriving when I can pose for pictures outside again. At least I have an empty living room to work with – just a really ugly floor/no baseboard 😉
The Racey 3.5″ shorts are in the sale section on the Brooks Website – I might have to buy a few more pairs for the spring season!
Another pair of bottoms I received are the Greenlight Running Capris – in that bright, yellow neon colour! You can see me from anywhere 🙂
Like the Streaker tights – I find that the capris feel small, especially in the waist/thighs. I’ve also been eating lots of ice cream + donuts and have gained weight, so that might be the problem (but my shorts feel fine?). It is noted that the capris should feel this way, some of you might like it, but I’m a little self conscious about it. However, the Greenlight capris are made out of DriLayer Horse power fabric and definitely feel more comfortable than the Streaker tights. The capri’s are nice to run in and don’t move around. Also, since the capris are tight, you might want to be aware of your underwear choices as panty lines will show. I like that side hem is ruched and appreciate the double pockets on the waist band. The capri’s are also reversible, one side is a solid colour, the other is a pattern. I really like the patterns and colours that Brooks has put together.
I’m looking forward to Spring so I can start wearing less layers outside. I haven’t worn the capris much because they are too warm for treadmill running and not long enough for winter running. Once the temperature starts rising above 5C, I’m sure I will be sporting these capris on the trails. You will see me coming from miles away!
Thanks to Brooks who gave me these products in exchange for a review. All opinions are my own.
