Thinking Out Loud #90

Another Thinking Out Loud Thursday – linking up with Amanda at Running with Spoons.

  1. Outdoor Meet!

I have an outdoor track meet today. It is a little cold out today, so I will be in all the layers and maybe even my NYC marathon poncho. Figures that last week it was 21C and we had an indoor meet. Next week we start outdoor practices with the competitive club. No more dome! I am so happy to leave that place. I just got my duty schedule for the big meets coming up and I have relay zone duty and I’m an alternate for the jury of appeal – no pressure at all!

2.  Mississauga Half Marathon

I’m leaving tomorrow afternoon for Toronto to participate in this year’s Mississauga Half! It should be fun. I had a physio appointment on Tuesday and we were able to get my right leg to relax a bit, but it still isn’t the greatest. Figuring that the issue is the glutes not working properly (again). Funny enough, my right glute feels different from the left one. I’m doing a few different glute activation exercises to try and get it working again. Anyways enough about my butt….

I don’t really have a goal or anything for this weekend other than to have fun. I’m probably just going to go by feel and see what happens, but I also might have to just slow-run the whole thing. I have no idea! The weather is looking nice though. Earlier this week the weather forecast was calling for rain, but now it is back to sunny. Please stay that way!

#3 Sometimes I don’t know what I’m making for dinner

The other day I came home and had to make dinner. Not sure what to make, I took a look in the fridge. I had lots of veggies and some ground turkey. Deciding to improvise a bit, I cut up a bunch of veggies and started cooking. I added some hoisin sauce and made a yummy dinner. It was surprisingly good!

#4 Allergies + Cold Season

I have been a sniffling mess all week with no voice. My students think the no voice thing is absolutely hilarious. I’m feeling much better today, but not 100%. I should be good to go for Sunday without having to stop running to cough. Allergies are pretty bad this year too. My eyes are always red and watery!

#5 Last thing

As of this morning – I have officially switched back to my original goal race for Ottawa Race Weekend – the 1/2 marathon. Although I’m a bit sad that once again I can’t make it through marathon training without my legs being silly – I am a bit relieved about the decision as well. I’m already ready to go for the half marathon – actually I’m probably better trained then I’ve ever been for the half. We are also way behind on home renovations (next weekend will be a big reno weekend) and I really cannot fit 20 miles in on a school day. I can easily fit in 14-16K and my legs WILL cooperate for that distance. I haven’t been able to reach beyond 21K yet and I’m not sure that my legs can handle that distance. In the meantime, I’m going to continue resting up my leg for the rest of the week, run my butt off at the Mississauga Half and hopefully have a kick ass 1/2 marathon in Ottawa!

Time to get to track – have a great Thursday!

Are you running the race Saturday or Sunday? We are doing a pasta carb loading dinner Saturday night in Toronto! You should join.

Sunday – that sounds like fun

WHile you are probably a little upset about the marathon, I think switching to the half is a smart choice so that you don’t end up more injured or injured longer! I think you will be totally fine with the half but might have ended up sidelined longer if you tried to force the full 🙂

    Happy rest of training!

Exactly – I don’t want to spend the summer injured. I would have rushed the last two weeks of training and I have a feeling that a stress fracture would have happened. The half is still fun and I’m already ready to go for that!
