Big news for Ottawa Race Weekend’s 10K Race – the Canadian elites have been announced! Although I already had a good idea that this was happening – Lanni Marchant and Natasha Wodak will be returning for the 10K Canadian Championships (which is run at the same time as the Ottawa 10K). Reid Coolsaet is on board on the men’s side. There are many other top Canadian (and World!) runners participating, so there is no doubt that the 10K will be an amazing race.
Have you registered for the 10K yet? The race is 94% full – so now is the time to sign up and secure your spot in one of the best 10K races. The Ottawa Marathon and 10K are IAAF Gold Label races, meaning that they meet high standards. While writing my Mississauga Half post and reading other posts about it and the GoodLife Marathon, I realized how spoiled I am with the Ottawa Race Weekend. Fellow Team Awesome member James has written a great post about what the Gold Label means – take a look. I just have to think about how many times I’ve had problems at other races with aid stations, race routes and measured courses to realize why I continue to sign up for Ottawa Race Weekend each year.
Seriously – it is a fun race and Run Ottawa is amazing at running the event. There is a fantastic expo where you can spend some hard earned $$ on running-related gear – and you never know which elites might show up. Water stations are well stocked with plenty of volunteers (they ask for at least 50 people per small water station). The race routes are closed off to traffic, on main roads and tend to be filled with spectators. The finish line has a Beer Garden with live music. The OC Transpo does operate on Sunday mornings and the race starts are only a short walk from the centre of Ottawa/the hub of all public transit.
Race Weekend is quickly approaching. I’m going to the water station meeting next week and then have to train my eager 50+ students. I’m planning on going to the expo more than once – hope to see some of you there! On Saturday I will be watching the 10K and Max/P will be running in the 2K race. Sunday is race day for me! I love this weekend and hope that you are taking part in an event or two. Even if you can just come out to spectate, you will probably have a great time. If you are in Ottawa and want to spectate the 10K with me, let me know!
Hurry up and sign up – Marathon is at 92%, 10K at 94%, 5K at 73% and 2K at 76%. See you on Race Day!
