Thinking Out Loud Thursday #103

Another Thinking Out Loud Thursday – linking up with Amanda at Running with Spoons.

#1 – One more schedule change

School starts on Tuesday – yay! My schedule is now finalized and it turned out better than expected. First off, a easy room change means that for the first time ever, I have my own classroom (at my PM school). I won’t have to randomly find a place to work during my prep and I can select my own desk-layout. I also have windows in my classroom (if you are aware of my other locations, you know why this is a big deal)

Also, I applied for and received an LTO (long term supply job) for teaching an online course during semester 1. My school board only allows teachers to have one section (out of three) of online teaching per semester and generally the positions go to permanent teachers. I couldn’t apply in the spring as I was still on probation so when I saw this position go up, I applied! It will make my school schedule very predictable as I’m probably not going to take additional supply work. Basically my schedule will include every other morning off with only going to school B in the afternoon, and one day of two schools. There is still a possibility that all of this can change with the season we call “re-org”. But I’m super relieved for the extra income because……

#2 We have found a house

I think last week or the week before I said we were waiting until our house had sold, but when a great house in an ideal location pops up you have to try and make it work. The deal is conditional on the sale of our house and could easily fall through if we cannot sell by the end of September. Orleans has an overabundance of homes and is a buyers market. Selling can be difficult. Some of you Toronto-people have seen what my townhouse is going for and LOL’d. Welcome to Ottawa 🙂 There are still some expensive neighbourhoods here, but 2 million can get you a pretty decent mansion in Rockcliffe if you want it. In some neighbourhoods in Toronto, that buys you a townhouse?! Anyways, enough about that. The house we will hopefully be moving to hits all the criteria we are looking for. More than 1 acre of property, well-laid out, 2 car garage, easy to get to the highway/major roads, fireplace, bigger kitchen and at least 3 bedroom/2 bath.

We have seen sooooo many houses over the past year and this one was only the second one we really, really liked. We met with our mortgage advisor a few weeks ago and realized that we could up our budget a bit. But to be clear, that is ‘our’ budget, not the number the bank gave us because that is just nutty. If we were going to go to the top end of ‘our budget’ the house had to be essentially turn-key. Not only is it turn-key (I might not even have to paint) but it also comes with a salt-water in-ground pool and we negotiated the sale of the existing play structure for Max. Edit: Totally forgot to mention that this house is in rural west-end Ottawa.

So – I’m really hoping someone buys our place soon. Otherwise in October I will have to post a sad post. But if it all goes well, then it will be time to pack 🙂 I may already be dreaming of spending my summers at the pool.

#3 Sunset Runs

My schedule for running is all over the place right now. On Sunday, I attempted my long run but shut it down at 5K because the humidity got to me. The next day it cooled off and I was able to go out for a long run after dinner. I ate a small amount of shrimp and rice, waited 45 minutes and went out. I had probably one of the best long runs ever. I was able to keep a good pace, easy breathing the entire way and had a good time. I even tried taking a running photo – I’m not good at these 😉

#4 Bullet Journal

One of my September goals is to stay organized. My memory isn’t as good as it used to be and I need to start writing down notes/thoughts more often. I already know that my back and forth schedule = some chaos, so I need to stay on top of everything. This year, I am ‘teaching’ a bit more as well and those courses are more on the academic subject side of things. Organization is key! I bought a Moleskin blank notebook and some Papermate InkJoy gel pens. I really like the pens! So far, I’m keeping track of some goals, budgets, meals and blogging stuff.

#5 PSL Time?

You know it is fall when Pumpkin Spice Latte talk begins. While writing this post, I recieved an email from Starbucks saying PSL’s are coming….. Soon it will be pumpkin everywhere! I’m more concerned about when the Pumpkin Ale gets here.

#6 Adult Clothes

I’ve been spending the entire summer in athletic gear. It might be a bit of a struggle to actually wear proper adult clothes next week. I set aside a bit of a shopping budget to buy some new outfits for the school year. I focused mostly on tops and luckily one store had a great sale on tops and everything was in my preferred colours. I also chose items that could easily be layered with a sweater for the winter but was ‘school appropriate’ when its 300000C in my classroom.

I hope everyone has a nice day – it is cooler in Ottawa today, so go out for a run!

I’m LOVING my bullet journal. It’s not pretty by any means but it keeps me sane.
I’m not a fan of PSL so I definitely won’t be running out to get the first one.

Mine isn’t pretty either – I have no talent in the printing/art department.

I usually have 2-3 of them and then get sick of them.

Are you staying in the east end or are you shifting west?

Going rural-west, about 10-15 minutes from Stittsville.

        We might be rural neighbours!

Setting out a blog schedule is so helpful. Even when I don’t stuck with it, it helps me think things through. Enjoy your bullet journal
