Thinking Out Loud Thursday #105

Happy Thursday!

Another Thinking Out Loud Thursday – linking up with Amanda at Running with Spoons.

#1 Opps, I did it again

I haven’t gone for a run since Sunday. I had an unfortunate run-in with a fire hydrant on Sunday (still need to post about Beer Run!) and Monday I was in a car accident, so I’ve just been “taking it easy” this week. But also, I’ve been busy with staff meetings and dealing with insurance stuff. For example, I had all plans to run after school today, but I had to buy a car seat instead. I will run tomorrow and Friday no matter what. Well – hopefully I can fit some running in on Friday as I’m at my school board’s main offices all day. Army Run is on Sunday, so it was a light week regardless. However, I cannot pull this stuff next week as I need to get ready for STWM!

#2 Dudes, where’s my car?

I actually don’t know…..

I’ve never been in an accident before, so I had no idea what to do/who to phone. The police were really nice and explained everything us. My car was towed to a yard, but the insurance company wanted to bring it somewhere else, so I ‘released’ the car. But today we found out that it is somewhere totally different. My front and back end are smashed up pretty bad, so I’m wondering how long it will take. But don’t worry, I have a nice white minivan to drive instead.

#3 Changes to NYC Marathon draws/ GUESS WHO IS RUNNING (not me…)

If you haven’t heard already – the NYRR/NYC Marathon were going through a lawsuit about charging to apply to the marathon drawing process. Changes are now being made in that you will no longer have to pay the $11 fee to enter the draw. However, the fees to fully register for the marathon have now gone up. For us Canadians, the price to run NYC is now almost $300 USD. It will be interesting to see if dropping the draw fee will cause more people to try and enter the marathon, making it even harder to get in. Of course the NYRR group was going to increase the cost of the marathon to offset the loss of income. NYC is NOT a cheap marathon to organize.

Speaking of NYC – guess who is on the elite list?

LANNI MARCHANT! YAY!!!

She has said that NYC is on her marathon bucket list, and she is now officially on the Elite Start List for NYC 2016. The elite field is STACKED. Molly Huddle is making her marathon debut and the usual big names are on the roster. It will be a fantastic race to watch!

#4 Thoughts about Army Run 5K

I’m hoping to have a great race on Sunday. I’m hoping to sneak a 5K PB in, but who knows if that will happen. I’ve had two bad experiences with random race events that cause me to run times that are much slower than they should. Last year I ran my splits in 5:00/4:58/5:14/5:17 and then apparently 6:30. Yeah, no highly doubt that I ran the last KM in a 5K at long-run pace. I am anticipating that the course could be long again this year, so I know I have to hit those tangents perfectly. Looking at the weather – I’m unsure what Sunday will bring. I don’t care at all about rain but the low on Saturday is supposed to be 17C and I’m wondering about humidity. I prefer to race in temps under 15C, so I’m hoping that will pan out.

I am in the first corral – but a word of advice to those who are also in the sub-25:00 range: The Commander’s Challenge runners might be in the first corral so they have enough time to get back to the start for the half. Be mindful of this and actually nudge yourself closer to the front. If you are running the Commander’s Challenge – stay at the back and just let those fast runners go – you will be clear in no time.

#5 PSL Time

It is Pumpkin-everything season. Although I’m still waiting for Pumpkin Beer, I’ve had two pumpkin spiced lattes – one at Starbucks and one at Bridgeheads. The Bridgehead’s latte was amazing. It wasn’t over the top with the spices, but tasted almost a little like a pumpkin creme brûlée (spelling?). Delicious! Clocktower’s Pumpkin Ale is being released today, so I’m sure within a week I will have my favourite seasonal ale. P has to go to the States to pick up a jeep part soon (we live an hour away from the border) and I’m hoping that along with the jeep part will be some Sam Adams Octoberfest beer.

Alright – time for work. Have a great Thursday!

I didn’t know about that fee change for the NYC marathon. Hopefully one day I’ll get a chance to go back and run it again. Preferably when our dollar is better!
