Happy New Year’s Eve!!!
New Year’s Eve tends to bring a flood of those yearly recap posts. So here is mine 🙂
In previous years I have posted a running recap but this year can pretty much be summed up in a few sentences. Running this year was interesting because of time constraints. I did not run as many races as I usually do and seemed to focus more on the half marathon this year. I made some progress in the half, but not as much as I would have liked. I ran the Mississauga Half, Ottawa Half and STWM Half marathons. Mississauga was a fun course but it was raining and I was dealing with some post-tib issues again. Ottawa Half Marathon was a hot one – and I did manage to sneak a PB in. STWM was supposed to be a major PB attempt but that lovely sinus infection plagued me and many others. It became a race just to finish. For 5K races, I only ran a non-chip timed 5K and the Army Run. Army Run was a bit of a disaster with the humidity and the crowds, therefore I will be running the Commander’s Challenge for more of a fun race in 2017. I ran the 10K Cookie Run and surprised myself by almost PBing with little training. But I think that is what happens when you finally have great weather!
It took a whole year of renovating, selling and finding a home, but we finally moved at the end of November. It took us longer than expected to renovate our other house and I’m not entirely sure it was worth it. I did learn quite a bit about renovations and do look forward to completing a few renovations in the new home over the summer. I love the new home, despite my commute. I’m really looking forward to the summer when I get to relax in the pool and sit on the deck with no neighbours being able to see everything we do. Renovating and Moving took up most of our time from January right into July. Then with all of this, I was involved in a multi-vehicle accident on the highway. It isn’t fun having to rush around, deal with insurance and find a car in a short amount of time!
Work is work and I don’t talk about it much on here. I finally became a permanent teacher at the end of 2015 and have increased my status since then. But both the winter and fall semesters included working at two different schools every day. A bit of a challenge, and I am glad that I will be done with that (at least until September) in 15 school days. I had a great time at OFSAA Track and also had a good summer school session. I’ve been working on a project with some other teachers at other schools for the past month and look forward to sharing our ideas with teachers from across the city in the new year.
Top Other Moments
Ottawa Race Weekend – always a blast and this year was extra special being part of Team Awesome and with the VIP passes to watch the Canadian 10K Champs
California – always enjoy a visit there! Mexican food, beaches, warm but not humid weather and of course DisneyLand. Max vs. Darth Vader was a great moment.
A surprise medal at OFSAA – always great to see an athlete work so hard for years and earn a medal at OFSAA
Track in the snow – such a hilarious night!
Hope everyone has a fun and safe New Year’s Eve!
