Fun Fact – I had only been to Stittsville (a suburb of Ottawa) once prior to moving to the area in November. When I moved, I had no idea what was in Stittsville so we went for a drive to find out what was around. One of the first places I saw was a GoodLife. Unfortunately, it was still in the construction phase and I had to wait until the first week of January to experience the new gym.
The Stittsville location is a two-floor GoodLife and features:
- Massive Change rooms
- Turf Zone
- Virtual on Demand classes
- Dedicated stretch areas in numerous locations
- Treadmills with individual TVs
- Hot Yoga (in addition to the standard offering of cycling and fitness classes)
- all other standard gym features
I went to the gym the day it opened. Everything was so bright and shiny and staff were at the ready to answer any questions. Surprisingly, the gym was pretty busy on opening day with people trying out everything from the treadmills to the Turf Zone. I ran a mile on the treadmill and then went upstairs to one of the dedicated stretch areas. The upstairs stretch area had that rubberized gym flooring which meant not only could one stretch – but you could also complete strength and stability exercises. Because I use GoodLife primarily for strength/stability having a dedicated area to do things like lunges, squats and med ball exercises is key. Workout equipment supplied in this area included med balls, bosu balls, and free weights. I got a whole workout in just in this section. The Turf Zone was a little busy, so I did not go on the first day but it is also stocked with lots of equipment specialized for the zone.
I am happy that I have a new GoodLife to go to on the way home from work. Now that my schedule is relaxing a bit, I’m hoping to hit the gym at least 2x a week to get that strength training in!
