National Capital Day 2 Re-cap

Oh what a day!  Once again CW did well and we are bringing 5 athletes to East OFSAA. All 5 have the potential of going to OFSAA based on their PB’s and overall trends of the season.

First up was the Sprint Hurdles – preliminary heat. Alexia charged through the hurdles, getting a PB in the process. Her main competition was in the first heat and so she didn’t have too much competition this round. Kevin had the senior boy’s hurdles, but because there were only 7 computers it was run as a final. At first they said “we will run it as a final now”, then changed it to “nope, it will be run in the afternoon with the finals”….once the kids freaked out a bit, it got changed back. Kevin got first!

Next on the track was Alexia again with her 400m. It didn’t go so well, she came in 7th overall. She wasn’t too terribly upset about it though 🙂 Next was the 100m heats – Nick, Nathan and Kevin all qualified for the finals. In the end in the afternoon – Kevin got 5th, Nick 4th and Nathan 2nd. After discussions with Kevin and his family, we decided to scratch him from next week’s 100m race since once again, all of his events are within an hour. This causes a bit of stress – and since the stakes are much higher – there is little wiggle room for error and tiredness. His 100 is his weaker event, so we scratched.

We also ran a 4×400 race. Nathan had literally *just* finished his 100m and Nick/Kevin only had about 10 minutes of rest – so therefore we were not very good. Daniel did a lot better this round though!

In the jumps we had a good day. Jaimee PB’d in the triple jump, taking 1st overall. Nick placed 1st in the long jump by a cm…pretty close!

Qualifiers for Next Week:

Nathan – 100m, 200m, Long jump

Kevin – 100m (scratched), Long jump and 110m hurdles

Alexia – 80m hurdles and 300m hurdles

Jaimee – high jump and triple jump

Nick – High jump, long jump and 100m
