Ham and Sweet Potato Dinner


Now that we are full-fledged in the “I eat real food” stage with Max, I am thinking of new meals to make that I know he will like. He is teething again – so he has been a tricky monkey in getting him to eat his meals. Last night I made tuna noodle casserole and he wasn’t having any of it! This is the boy who likes all things pasta too! grrrrr

At daycare today he wasn’t really in the mood for eating apparently. Luckily I had a Max-approved meal for dinner: HAM! Max loves ham. If I gave him a whole ham, he would probably go to town on it. So yesterday I picked up a small ham at the Farm Boy to cook up for tonights dinner.

To prep the ham, I simply whisked together a mixture of mustard, mustard grains and honey. I slathered it all over the ham and put it in a pan with a bit of apple juice and water. I also stuck some cloves in for good measure. Into a 325 degree oven for about an hour. For a side, I stuck in some sweet potatoes beside the pan in the oven.



After an hour I removed the ham from the oven and cut it into thick slices. For Max, I removed the skin (??) and cut into small cubes that he could chew. I also prepared some frozen green beans. To prep the cooked sweet potato, I spooned some cream cheese and mixed it with salt and pepper.

Max ate an entire big piece of ham, some cucumber (he hated the beans) and a taste of sweet potato. He also had a few crackers as a chaser. The constant wiggling of the feet and waving hands indicated that he enjoyed his ham!

For dessert I had a couple of chocolate-peppermint pretzels, also from Farm Boy. The pretzels are really thin, and I had to stop myself from eating the whole bag!
