Thinking Out Loud Thursday #9

Happy Thursday!!

As like most of the other Thursday’s – it is time for Three Things Thursday, linking with Amanda at Running With Spoons

#1 – School’s Out!

It was the last day of classes yesterday – so no more teaching in a class til (maybe) September (I won’t know about jobs for next year until late August)!  I still have exams, but since my courses do not have an exam, I just have to supervise, mark and create report cards. I am teaching online this year for summer school, so this year I really am done with being inside a classroom for the summer. Not looking forward to exam supervision. I have one of the longer exams to supervise (Grade 12 Chem) and I will be in there for 3 hours. We are not supposed to do anything but supervise (no marking, no reading) – so it will probably be the longest three hours ever!

#2 – Allergies

I have been feeling dizzy and just ‘blah’ lately. I was trying to figure out what was going on – then I realized, allergies. I do get seasonal allergies, but this year it seems to just be in the sinuses and the usual red/watery eyes. The thing with the sinuses is it can make you dizzy. It has been a fun couple of days – but the allergy meds are helping.

#3 – Ice Cream Cake

Speaking of the last day of classes – for our last afternoon class, we decided to eat an entire Dairy Queen ice cream cake. It was gone in all of 10 minutes and there was only 19 of us in the class. Yum!

#4 – Push Bike Fun

We bought Max a push bike from MEC for Christmas and he is just about the right size for it now. He likes to go on bike rides to the park – although most of the time he wants to jump off the sit and just push the bike. We usually take a stroll around the parks in our area either as soon as we get home or after dinner. Yes – he does have a ladybug helmet.

#5 Cows!

One of my routes home during rush hour is over 50% on back country roads – therefore I pass by many farms, including farms with Moo-cows

#6 Back at it

Since I am only a half-time teacher and most of my supervision duties are in the morning, I am off work at about 1pm until I finish up my contract at the end of the month. No more afternoon commute (which is by far the worst of the two commutes I do). Tonight is Track Thursday and since my leg is back to normal, I am going to get back into running tonight! I have two weeks before I start marathon training, so running will basically be in the form of running drills and shorter runs (I have to fix my form on my left leg as I found via a race picture that it twists, which is most likely the cause of my shin splints). It has been awhile since I’ve packed a huge lunch bag and a gym bag!

#7 Tornado

There was a tornado in Angus, Ontario (near Barrie) the other day. Lots of homes damaged, but luckily only minor injuries. Seeing some of the pictures and knowing the time of day (rush-hour) it was surprising that no one was seriously hurt. I’ve watched a few of the videos that have been posted online and read many articles and it appears lots of people were either upstairs or outside when the tornado hit – some were even driving home after work. I know that for my southern USA friends, this happens quite often and the tornadoes are much worse (like the Nebraska double tornado), but in Ontario we tend to get mostly small tornadoes in rural areas. Angus is not too far from the Barrie and where the storm hit was a newer subdivision – we were just near Angus a couple of months ago too. Again, it is surprising no one was hurt!

Alright – time to go mark 50+ assignments – wish me luck!

I <3 the ladybug helmet (Gabe was a ladybug for Halloween one year. I didn't notice until later that the spots were hearts, too!).

Good luck with your grading and proctoring! I'm glad the meds are helping with your allergies. They can be such a pain.

DQ ice cream cakes are AH.MAZE.ING. I used to request them for every single birthday when I was growing up, until they slapped an allergy warning label on them and I couldn’t eat them anymore 😥 But at least I still have ice cream 🙂

some homes were damaged enough that they have to be completely torn down and built again. These homes are not cheap either – fairly big suburban homes 🙁
