I hope that everyone had a great Christmas yesterday and a great Boxing Day today!
Boxing Day is Canada’s version of Black Friday, but I swear that it is the same “deals” every year. I looked at Future Shop, Target and Lululemon, but nothing too great was on sale. One item that was of interest was a new camera lens but the sale price wasn’t all that exciting. David’s tea has 40% off their holiday teas and a few mugs, but I don’t really need any more mugs/tea. I did stop by MEC (Canadian outdoors store) and noticed that they had a sale on certain Oiselle items. So I bought Portman pants and a Birds of a Feather long sleeved shirt. I have been waiting for that shirt to go on sale and at almost 40% off with free shipping, it was quite a deal.
Yesterday was our standard, run of the mill Christmas. We opened presents and ate food. Sometimes Max is just too clever and was all “Santa didn’t bring me these toys, Mommy bought them!” yesterday. He did buy into the idea that Santa and his reindeer came and ate cookies though. He spent all day yesterday playing with his Lego (duplo version) and his train set. The train set if a mix of the Ikea train set and about 100 pieces of train set that I purchased at a used toy store. When we took it all out of the bag, we figured that there are actually 3 train sets in the bag, not just one. Max now has enough pieces to make a train set as big as our basement. We also bought a used Thomas the Engine play table (which retail for over $300 here in Canada), but hope to repair it before showing Max.
Last night after dinner, we went to Taffy Lane – a street in Ottawa that has almost every house covered in Christmas lights. Yes, it is actually called Taffy Lane and the streets surrounding it are called Sugar Bush and Sugar Creek. Taffy Lane has a pretty big reputation for being the best street for lightsThe traffic into Taffy lane is nuts. There is only one way in and out of the sub-division, so cars can be pretty backed up. Because of the amount of cars present, Taffy Lane is a one-way street during the holiday season. Max liked all the Santa’s and Snowmen. Because the weather was so nice, we walked the street. What I didn’t realize, was how close I live to Taffy Lane. There is a creek that separates my part vs. the Taffy Lane area. When driving/walking, it is about 2K away. But if there was a bridge over the creek, it is only about 6oom from my house. Out of the entire street, only 3 had no lights – and 2 of those homes were for sale. The rumour is that if you own a house there, you are pretty much told to decorate your home. But, I think the residents just like decorating for everyone to enjoy!
To finish up Part I of the winter holidays, I went for a 6K run this afternoon. Beautiful running conditions as it was 4C (warm for Ottawa!!!) and no ice/snow on the sidewalks. Running is so much easier without that snow! I actually over-dressed for the weather in my “light layers” winter gear, which was tights, a tank, sweater and running jacket. I could have easily run in shorts/compression socks today. When I thought about it, the weather was very similar to the NYC marathon weather, and I wore shorts that day. I am definitely going to take advantage of the no-snow sidewalks this week. I am running the Resolution Run on New Year’s Eve, and it looks like the roads will be clear! Sweet!
Which brings me to an important question. One of my Christmas gifts was a gift certificate to get a running tattoo. Not my first tattoo – I have some music-related ones, but nothing running-related. I have a pretty good idea of what I want (running girl silhouette with 42.2KM and NYC some how involved) BUT, what I don’t really know is where I should put the tattoo. Generally, I like my tattoos to be easily hidden, but I feel that a running tattoo should be on one of my legs. So, I am looking for some feedback – lower legs, outside ankle, inside ankle…I don’t know 🙁
Hope everyone is having a great day!
