Thinking Out Loud Thursday #45 – linking up with Amanda at Running with Spoons
Another busy Thursday! I have lots of marking to do, have a bank appointment, a physio appointment and then I’m going to a coaches function later on tonight (which means skipping out on track tonight, boo).
#1 Nike 15K is almost here!
I am heading down to Toronto tomorrow in order to run the Nike 15K. This isn’t a race for me but rather a fun long run with lots of running friends. I am supposed to be in Wave 3, but now going to be in Wave 4 as I am going to be running just slightly above 6:00/km pace. I am most excited to hang out with a giant group of running friends – there are so many people running this race! The hardest part will be finding everyone in the morning – but hey, most of us have 3 hours to kill + cell phones so it shouldn’t be too hard.
The only goal for this race is to finish, have fun and get that Tiffany necklace. I could care less about anything else. I’m evening planning on taking a few pictures during the race 😉 The whole Ferry situation should be interesting. I am on the 2nd ferry and plan on sticking with that ferry. I will then proceed to take a nap on a park bench. I think after the race will be a bit more interesting.
Two important pieces of information for anyone going:
* Lakeshore Blvd. will be closed just west of the harbourfront – SO if you are driving or being picked up, plan accordingly. I am no longer being picked up downtown.
* The “drink” on the course is Nuun. If you haven’t tried Nuun before, either don’t drink it or test it out before. Nuun has sorbitol in it which doesn’t agree with lots of people’s tummies, mine included. If I drink that stuff, I will be doubled over in pain within 10 minutes. Remember a big race rule: never try anything new on race day!
#2 My Sweet Ride to Toronto
I was approached by GMC a couple months ago about trying out one of their vehicles for my next roadtrip. When I found out about Nike 15K, I arranged to test out a car for this trip. On Monday, I picked up an Acadia Denali to try for the week. What a vehicle! It comes with all the bells and whistles and is a fun SUV to drive. I will talk more about it in a later post. Even Max likes it. His first ride in the car he yelled “this is sooooo cool!! YAY!”. He is also excited that he gets to watch DVDs in the car on the way to my parents.
#3 Love these
Farm Boy has a hot bar in their stores. They have these wonton jalapeno poppers that are so delicious. Every time I go to Farm Boy I have to buy a few of these to snack on during the ride home. Try them out the next time you are in the store
#4 School is almost out?!?
This year, the school year ends a few days earlier in the calendar. Our last day of class is next Tuesday which seems so soon. I do not have any exams for my classes, so I just have a few exam duties and I’m done. Because I’m only part-time, I get to leave as soon as my exam duty is finished. Sweet! Works out perfectly since STWM training starts next week. I’m not even sure what I’m doing after next week. I have one exam duty and commencement. I cannot plan for next year because I don’t have a job yet, and won’t know about work until the day before Labour Day (seriously….). There is also some “political stuff” that I don’t talk about on here that is going on – which makes my end of the year duties a bit different. I also have summer school starting soon, but I’m back to online teaching. Yay for teaching in my comfy clothes!
#5 Interested in watching some high performance athletes next weekend?
We are almost one year out from the Olympics and a few weeks away from the Pan Am games. Obvsiously, most of us are not going all the way to Brazil to watch the Games, and maybe not even going to something at Pan Am. BUT – there is a way to watch some Olympians next week in Ottawa. The Ottawa Lions Track and Field Club is hosting the Capital Cup, a multi-event meet that will have a number of high profile athletes. The one I’m most looking forward to seeing is Jessica Zelinka, one of Canada’s top hurdlers/heptathletes. I’ve volunteered at this event for a couple of years and seriously, it is some great track and field. Best part for you – it is free to attend. Anyone is welcome, even the kids. Let me know if you want any details!
Alright – time for work!
