Running is a big part of my life – when I am not running myself, I am coaching Cross Country and Track and Field, both in high schools and a local competitive club.

Back years ago, I competed in high school track and field. I wasn’t an all-out all-star, but I did my best and had a great time while competing. However, I was a sprinter and a hurdler. I despised having to run any more than 800m. Actually, I struggled running 800m. Having moved to Ottawa in 2009 and not having a full-time job upon arriving – I decided to take up running. When I started I could barely run 1K without having to slow down and catch my breath. In the spring of 2010, when I started working full-time, a bunch of people around the lunch table were talking about running the Ottawa Race Weekend Races. On a whim, I decided to register for the 5K race. (I laugh now, because that particular race fills up in February now – I signed up in April!). I set the bar pretty low and just wanted to finish in under 40 minutes. I achieved that goal by finishing in 33 minutes. By the end of the race, I was hooked on running and have since competed in about 16 races – which includes one 10K and one 1/2 marathon.
My 2011 season was spent mostly taking a break from running as I was pregnant for the entire spring/summer season. I bounced back in 2012 by competing in my first 10K race and my first 1/2 marathon race. I continued running 5K races – with a highlight having run a sub-30 time while running with Max in the Chariot.
